Ja Morant reflects on suspension, set to return after ban

The Memphis Grizzlies’ star guard, Ja Morant, is poised to make his way back to the NBA after enduring a challenging 25-game suspension. As Morant readies himself for his return, he looks forward to embracing the opportunity to step back onto the court, aiming to be the best version of himself, both on and off the basketball court.

Speaking about his time away, Morant acknowledged his struggle during the ban, calling the days “horrible” but also expressed gratitude for the support that helped him through this period.

The suspension came after two separate incidents where videos surfaced showing Morant with a gun, leading to his absence from the court for over a month.

The 24-year-old, who was named the NBA’s Most Improved Player in 2022, emphasised that the support he received was crucial during this difficult phase, stating it was what he leaned on throughout the process.

Now, as he looks ahead to rejoining his team, Morant is focused on contributing positively without putting undue pressure on himself. With the Grizzlies facing a tough season start, he recognises the responsibility he holds and aims to assist his team in climbing back up the rankings.

Reflecting on the impact of his actions on the team’s performance, Morant expressed a sense of responsibility and remorse for not being able to support his teammates during their games due to the ban. He took full responsibility for his actions, acknowledging the consequences of his decisions.

During his time away, Morant engaged in practice sessions with the team but was unable to join them on the court during games, which he found challenging. However, he credited this period as a learning experience, stating that it provided him with insights into his own self and life, ultimately leading to personal growth.

Having undergone therapy and self-reflection, Morant revealed that the experience has led to a new perspective on life. He expressed a commitment to making better decisions, not just as an NBA player but also as a family member and role model.

Despite the difficulties, Morant emphasised the positive impact of the support he received from his inner circle, crediting them for aiding his learning process during the suspension. He acknowledged the absence of the therapeutic aspect of playing basketball during this time but highlighted the importance of being surrounded by the right people.
