Patrick Mahomes, the star quarterback of the two-time Super Bowl winner team, the Kansas City Chiefs, has finally addressed the Lombardy Trophy controversy, Marca reported.
In a recent interview with Complex, Mahomes set the record straight, explaining what exactly happened on the night of the Super Bowl celebrations.
He said: “I’m not that dumb just to hand the trophy in the middle of a crowd. That was a replica trophy.”
Mahomes had been accused of being so drunk during the celebratory parade that he gave away the iconic Vince Lombardi Trophy to a random stranger in the crowd.
Furthermore, during the interview, he also promised his fans another title win next season. He said: “I just want to let you all know that this is just the beginning. We ain’t done yet, so I’ll make sure to hit y’all back next year and I hope the crowd’s the same.”
Mahomes and team won the Super Bowl LVIII match after defeating San Francisco 49ers. It was played in February at the Allegiant Stadium in Nevada.
The Chiefs quarterback is married to Brittany Mahomes whom he shares two children with. Recently the couple was spotted on a weekend getaway for a friend’s birthday celebrations.
