Saim Ayub appeals for prayers to be fit for Champions Trophy

LONDON: Pakistan’s top-order batter Saim Ayub has said he plans to work hard towards his rehabilitation to be fit in time for the Champions Trophy in a few weeks.

Speaking to  News in London, Ayub, when asked if he thinks he can be fit for the upcoming Champions Trophy, said: “I will try my best and so will the doctors working with me but I cannot say anything with certainty.”

The aggressive batter said: “I have no idea about the estimated time of recovery. I will try my best.”

Ayub, one of Pakistan’s mainstays in the batting order, suffered an ankle injury while fielding on the first day of the second Test against South Africa in Cape Town.

Following the injury, Ayub was sent to London by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for medical treatment. He has been in London for two weeks now, meeting doctors and physios.

He told Geo News: “I request everyone to pray for my fitness. My appeal for prayers is for everyone.”

When asked about his two recent phenomenal centuries and the Pakistani batting side’s growing dependence on him, the star player said: “I don’t agree that the whole team depends on me. It’s not one member that makes the team; the whole team matters and every player counts and matters.”

Ayub has been examined by two noted orthopedic surgeons in London, Dr David Redfern and Dr Lucky Jeyaseelan. He has also visited two physios who are known experts in the areas of trauma treatments.

Ayub confirmed he will soon be flying to Dubai once he gets his visa.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has overseen Ayub’s well-being, ensuring he receives top-tier medical care.

The PCB chairman had said that Ayub is a stylish batsman and an asset to Pakistan cricket.

“Saim’s treatment will be ensured at the best hospital of the world and all resources will be used for his treatment. We hope that the left-handed batter will make a full recovery before the ICC Champions Trophy.”
