PNN – Ursula Asta, a geopolitical analyst from Argentina, stated that Netanyahu’s goal in the war against the Islamic Republic of Iran was to maintain his power, adding: America’s military and economic power is declining.
Ursula Asta, a geopolitical analyst from Argentina, taking a broad look at developments in the West Asian region, considers the actions of the Zionist regime as part of a broader project to maintain Western hegemony and prevent the decline of the unipolar order led by the United States. Emphasizing Israel’s political fragility and the prominent role of neoconservatives in the political structure of the United States, he believes that the warmongering and targeted assassinations against Iran are not being carried out out of security concerns, but rather to prevent the strengthening of the axis of resistance and prevent Tehran from joining the multipolar global order. In this interview, Asta also criticizes the double standards of international institutions, the West’s silence on war crimes, and the role of mainstream media in distorting reality, and emphasizes the need to form an independent front to confront the West’s hegemonic project. Below, you can read the full text of the exclusive interview with this Argentine analyst;
In recent days, the world has witnessed the Zionist regime’s blatant acts of aggression against Iran and its people. In your opinion, why does this regime commit such crimes against defenseless civilians in Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran? What factors drive it to continue these aggressions, including targeted assassinations?
It can be said that Netanyahu has various reasons for starting a war with Iran; a war that this time also involves the United States, a country that has previously played a role in defending Israel, but has now directly engaged in military action. Among these reasons, one can mention Netanyahu’s political and even legal weakness, as well as the fragility of his political coalition. From this perspective, Netanyahu seems to view war as a vital element for maintaining his power and political survival.
On another level, Iran is a serious obstacle to the dream of a “Greater Israel.” On the other hand, the Trump administration in the United States is facing severe internal crises, and the strong presence of Zionist and neoconservative factions in its structure has provided a special opportunity for Israel, because these American currents consider control of the West Asian region a strategic goal and see Israel not only as an ally, but also as a key player in achieving that goal.

The Zionist regime claimed to be targeting Iran’s nuclear and missile programs, but in practice, it bombed hospitals, infrastructure, and media centers, and many of the victims were women and children. How can this contradiction be explained? What is the real purpose of these actions?
Israel has always tried and continues to try to prevent Tehran and Washington from reaching a nuclear agreement in any way possible. Evidence from the ongoing sixth round of negotiations confirms this fact. Furthermore, it is worth noting that Israel later linked the claim of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons with the goal of changing the political system in Iran.
Despite the documentation of the Zionist regime’s war crimes by the United Nations and human rights organizations, Western countries continues to support this regime politically and militarily. In your opinion, why is the West silent in the face of these crimes?
Netanyahu is well aware that there are neoconservatives and Zionists in the Trump administration who support the “Greater Israel” plan. Thus, the main goal of the neoconservatives in the “New American Century” project is to control West Asia. By achieving this goal, it will be possible to restore the global supremacy of the United States. This intention was evident during the Bush administration and during the attacks on Afghanistan and Iraq and other similar actions.
Western media often portrays the Israeli regime’s actions as self-defense, while ignoring the killing of civilians in Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran, as well as terror operations. How do you assess this media bias and what is the way to counter it?
The legendary Iron Dome has proven to be not invincible. Now a strange paradox is emerging: those who claim to have won the war cannot celebrate in their own land, but instead face pain and mourning.
The media cannot be understood outside of this arena of struggle. Where I am responding is South America, a hemisphere dominated by American and British narratives. However, despite the dominance of the major media outlets, there are always alternative media sources that contribute from a different perspective and seek more accurate information to provide a balance against the mainstream media.
Perhaps due to advances in information and communication technologies, we now have more access than ever to news of mass killings spread on social media. Some narratives that deny these events seem particularly offensive, especially when we consider the severe humanitarian crisis facing people like the residents of Gaza.
In your opinion, what is the long-term goal of the Zionist regime with these aggressive and expansionist policies? What threat do these ambitions pose to its neighbors in the region?
As noted earlier, the balance of power in the Middle East is shifting to the detriment of Western geopolitical interests. The region is increasingly leaning towards the emerging world, such as the BRICS, which poses a challenge to Israel, a country that pursues aggressive policies.
For example, the importance of the Iran-Saudi diplomatic agreement and China’s prominent role in facilitating it is noteworthy. Also, Iran, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates have joined the BRICS group, and Saudi Arabia is determining its position in this group. Turkey is also an active BRICS partner. In addition, there is a comprehensive strategic agreement between Iran and Russia, as well as Iran’s contracts with China in the fields of infrastructure, industry and oil. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) also plays a role.
What is your reaction to the recent attacks by this regime against Iran and the killing of civilians? What message do you have for the people?
I condemn the killings and believe that when discussing geopolitical events, it is vital to focus on the human aspect because we are talking about human lives here, and each one of them is precious. The moral dimension of any regional realignment is absent from the strategic calculations of those seeking war, while the human toll continues to be counted. Thus, the colossal hypocrisy is clearly revealed.
As with the killing of civilians in Iran, the catastrophic and genocidal situation in the Gaza Strip should provoke global reflection and response. Israel’s decision to block humanitarian aid is another form of war. Even many journalists have been killed once again to keep information hidden and distort the true narrative.
The Zionist regime has illegal nuclear weapons outside the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency, but it attacks Iran claiming nuclear concerns. Isn’t this a clear example of double standards in global norms? How should the international community deal with this hypocrisy?
Iran has been Israel’s main enemy in the region since the Islamic Revolution in 1979. As previously noted, Israel is determined to prevent a nuclear deal between Iran and the United States at all costs. In fact, in 2018, the US withdrew from multilateral talks involving other countries on Iran’s nuclear development policy. Clearly, there is a significant contradiction; Israel is not under IAEA supervision, while other countries are.
At this stage, it is essential to examine the effectiveness of the international mechanisms established after World War II. The new era that is emerging from the current geopolitical debates directly points to this issue and should not be ignored.
I bring up this last point again because of its importance in any serious discussion of the international community and its hypocrisy. In this context, there are at least three major regions in the world that are witnessing major conflicts that are somehow connected, and all of them are located in Eurasia.
