1,700 Gaza prisoners released/Transfer of prisoners from 5 Israeli prisons begins.
According to Yedioth Ahronoth, the Israeli Prisons Service has received orders to release Palestinian security prisoners within the framework of the prisoner exchange agreement.
The newspaper announced that the transfer of security prisoners from five Israeli prisons to special prisoner release sites has begun.
The media outlet added that the prisoner exchange agreement includes the release of about 250 Palestinian prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment and 1,700 prisoners from Gaza who were captured after the October 7th operation (Al-Aqsa Storm).
Previously, “Moses Abu Marzouk”, a senior member of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), had announced that the movement was consulting with mediators to remove obstacles and pave the way for the release of prominent Palestinian leaders who are in Israeli prisons.
He added that “Marwan Barghouti, Ahmed Saadat and Abbas al-Sayed are among the most prominent Palestinian leaders whom the occupying regime refuses to release.”
Abu Marzouk stressed that no violations by the Zionist regime have been recorded in the implementation of the ceasefire agreement so far.
This senior Hamas member also said that the occupying forces have retreated to the yellow line, but they still control about 53 percent of the area of the Gaza Strip.
He emphasized: In the future, we will not accept the presence of the occupiers in the areas under their current control, because their continued presence in the Philadelphia (Salah al-Din) axis means cutting off the Gaza Strip’s connection with the depths of the Arab countries and Egypt.
According to IRNA, the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) stated on the morning of Thursday, October 9, 2025 (17 Mehr 1404), officially announcing the achievement of an agreement to end the war in Gaza and an agreement on the exchange of Zionist prisoners with Palestinian prisoners.
The Israeli army also officially announced on Friday afternoon that a ceasefire had come into effect in the Gaza Strip, stating: “According to the agreement, Israeli forces will remain stationed in certain areas of the Gaza Strip, and movement from the south to the north of the Gaza Strip will be permitted via Al-Rashid Street and Salahuddin Road.”
