American media: Iranians demanded rapid sanctions relief in talks.
The London-based Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper reported that Iran has asked the US delegation to provide access to billions of dollars in frozen assets held outside Iran during indirect talks in Muscat, the capital of Oman, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing several officials.
The sources, who were not named, told the Wall Street Journal that Iran has also demanded an end to Washington’s pressure on its Chinese oil buyers, considering this as part of a general process of easing restrictions.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Iran has, in return, announced its readiness to return to the enrichment level agreed upon under the 2015 nuclear deal (JCPOA).
The Wall Street Journal, citing its sources, claimed that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi conveyed Tehran’s red lines to the US side in these talks.
The sources told the American newspaper that Iran emphasizes the peaceful nature of its nuclear program and will reject any demand to halt its nuclear program.
