Deadly air accident in the US; military helicopter collides with passenger plane.
An American Airlines plane carrying 64 passengers and crew collided with a military helicopter in the sky over Washington, the US Civil Aviation Authority said, according to Reuters.
The incident occurred around 9 pm local time as the plane approached runway 33 at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
The US military said three soldiers were on board the helicopter, while a US official said the condition of the three soldiers was not yet known.
The American news network CBS reported that 18 bodies were pulled from the water during the search operation, but no one has been found alive so far.
The Washington, D.C. Fire Department announced in a statement that all flights to and from Reagan International Airport have been suspended due to the crash of a passenger plane after it collided with a helicopter near the airport.
Reuters also reported that rescue workers have pulled the bodies of more than 18 people from the crashed plane from the river, citing CBS.
