General Abdel Fattah Burhan, the head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, met with Mossad Boulos, the US President’s advisor on African affairs, in Switzerland on Monday night. The meeting lasted for almost three hours, during which the two sides discussed the need to stop the fighting in Sudan and address the humanitarian crisis in the country.
Western diplomatic sources revealed details of the meeting between General Abdel Fattah Burhan, the head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council and the commander of the Sudanese army, and Mossad Boulos, the US President’s advisor on African affairs.
These sources told the Sudan Tribune newspaper reporter: The focus of the talks between General Burhan and Boulos was the cessation of military clashes and the beginning of a political process that only includes civilians and keeps all warring parties away from it.
Western diplomats added: The Swiss talks had several aspects, including a confidential process regarding the future of armed groups and rapid reaction forces, and the army’s non-interference in political affairs.
A US official said that during the Swiss meeting, General Burhan was presented with documentary evidence of massacres and the use of banned weapons by the army and rapid reaction forces.
According to Western diplomats, the talks are aimed at improving the atmosphere for understanding between the two sides in the military conflict in Sudan.
