Pakistan concerned over Venezuela, urges UN Charter adherence.

Pakistan is concerned about Venezuela and urges the international community to adhere to the UN Charter.

In response to the developments in Venezuela after the US attack on Caracas, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry announced: Islamabad is following the situation in Venezuela with concern and calls for adherence to the principles of the UN Charter and an end to the crisis.

The statement from the Islamabad Government Diplomacy Center states: Pakistan attaches great importance to the welfare of the people of Venezuela and is watching the evolving situation in the country with concern.

The Pakistani Foreign Ministry added: We call for restraint and de-escalation to end the crisis and emphasize the need to adhere to the principles of the UN Charter as well as international law to resolve all outstanding issues.

Meanwhile, in early January of this year, amid the Trump administration’s threats against Venezuela, Pakistan’s permanent representative to the UN expressed deep concern about the escalation of tensions in the Caribbean and warned: Any unilateral action that is contrary to international law will have dangerous and widespread consequences.

Various countries have declared and condemned the US action as a violation of the sovereignty of a UN member state. The Venezuelan government has announced that despite the kidnapping of its president, the authorities have resisted US pressure and will not become a colony of Washington again.
