UN rapporteur: US veto on Gaza ceasefire not surprising.
Following the international reactions to the US veto of a Security Council resolution to stop the war in Gaza, Michael Fakhri, the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, stated: “It is not surprising that the US has used its veto in the Security Council on the Gaza Strip.”
The UN official stated in an interview with Al Jazeera: “International laws, such as Security Council resolutions, are binding, and the UN General Assembly has the authority to implement the resolutions if the Security Council fails.”
He emphasized that the International Court of Justice has previously ruled that Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories is illegal and that this occupation must end.
The UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food stated that the International Court of Justice has also issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant for committing war crimes, which must be executed.
