US media: Nuclear tests undermine Trump’s bid for Nobel Peace Prize.
The newspaper reported that the Trump administration may use the remarks as leverage in nuclear arms control talks with Russia and China.
The report said: But such an escalation could undermine Trump’s recent efforts to establish himself as a peace president and receive the Nobel Peace Prize, as well as reduce tensions with America’s main geopolitical rival.
According to IRNA, US President Donald Trump announced in a message on his social media account, Truth Social, that he had ordered the country’s Department of War to resume nuclear weapons testing.
The US president noted: “Due to the testing programs of other countries, I have ordered the Department of War to begin testing our nuclear weapons, like theirs, and this will begin immediately.”
Trump has publicly supported receiving the Nobel Peace Prize and said that he has intervened to end numerous wars.
After the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, White House communications director Steven Chung accused the Nobel committee of preferring “politics over peace.”
Trump also said he had called Machado to congratulate her, and Machado said, “I accept this award in your honor, because you truly deserve it.”
