American-style freedom of speech; The Republicans demanded the dispatch of the police to suppress the students

PNN – The continuation of student movements in support of Palestine and opposition to the crimes of the Zionist regime exposed the violent nature of the American authorities; So that senior Republican senators have asked Joe Biden’s government to send federal police forces to suppress the students.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, the Guardian newspaper wrote: Intervening in the growing tensions at major American universities over the Gaza war, senior Republican senators called on the Joe Biden administration to use the FBI to crack down on pro-Palestinian protests that have led to the arrest of hundreds of people.

This newspaper added: 25 Republican senators, including Mitch McConnell, have asked the President of the United States to “quickly restore order to the university environment.”

McConnell, the minority leader of the US Senate and his deputy John Toon, in a letter addressed to the Attorney General Merrick Garland and Miguel Cardona, the Minister of Education of this country, claimed that the protesters are “anti-Semitic” and “sponsors of terrorism”.

On Monday of this week, the American police arrested about 150 protesters in demonstrations of supporters of Palestine in Yale and New York universities, and Columbia University announced that it will hold classes virtually until the end of the semester.

Some senior university officials, especially at Columbia University, have faced severe criticism and resignation requests from protesters angry at the suppression of students.

In another move that showed the violent nature of the American establishment, Senators Josh Hawley and Tom Cotton of the states of Missouri and Arkansas on Monday asked Biden to send National Guard troops to universities.

Hundreds of protesters at Yale University went on a hunger strike and asked the university to remove companies that manufacture military weapons and other manufacturers related to the Zionist regime.

In downtown Manhattan, US police clashed with protesters at New York University. Reports show that while the protesters tried to prevent the police car (carrying the detained students) from leaving, the officers used pepper spray to disperse the crowd.

The US police crackdown comes after Columbia University on Monday saw a major strike by professors in solidarity with students who were arrested last week after setting up protest tents.

Bassam Khawaja, a professor at Columbia Law University and a lawyer at the American College of Human Rights, said that he was “shocked” and “horrified” by the immediate arrival of New York police officers to the university.

He said that these protests were non-violent and a group of students had pitched a tent in the middle of the university campus.

Following the protests at Columbia University, a number of students at other American universities, including Brown, Princeton, and Northwestern, set up tents in their style.

In an exclusive interview with NBC News, FBI Director Christopher Wray claimed that the FBI is working with universities to inform their officials of so-called anti-Semitic threats and possible violence in the wave of protests against the war in Gaza.

He also claimed that his organization does not monitor student protests in universities, but shares information about specific violent threats.

The FBI director said: “We are very focused on working with law enforcement at the state and local level and at universities and other institutions to ensure that we are leading the way in preventing any violent threats.”
