Foreign policy: Israel is no longer able to defend itself / The gradual deterioration of Tel Aviv’s strategic thinking

PNN – In an analysis referring to the problems and crises facing the Israeli society and explaining the extreme and wrong decisions of the leaders of the Zionist regime towards the Palestinians and the Middle East, the magazine “Foreign Policy” announced the imminent decline and destruction of Zionism’s approach to self-defense.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, this American analytical media writes in describing the problems facing the Israeli regime: Israeli citizens are deeply divided, and this situation is unlikely to improve. The country is locked in an unwinnable war in Gaza, and while its military is under severe pressure, the possibility of a wider war with Hezbollah or Iran remains. Israel’s economy has been severely damaged, and according to The Times of Israel, 60,000 businesses may be closed this year.

In describing other aspects of the crisis in the political, economic and international society of the Zionist regime, this article added: Moreover, Israel’s performance (in Gaza) has severely damaged its global image, and Israel is becoming a hated regime, something that was once unimaginable. At the same time, the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court has requested an arrest warrant for Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, and Yoav Galant, the Minister of Defense (War), on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity. The International Court of Justice has issued preliminary rulings describing Israel’s actions as genocide. Also, this court declared Israel’s occupation and colonization in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem as a clear violation of international law. American support for Israel’s actions is declining sharply, and young Americans (including many young American Jews) are opposed to the Biden administration’s flexible response to Israel’s actions.

In a part of this analysis, referring to many internal and external criticisms of Benjamin Netanyahu, it is stated about the current situation of Israel: Pointing at Netanyahu ignores the main reason for this situation, which is “the gradual erosion of Israel’s strategic thinking in the last 50 years”.

Foreign Policy further claimed: The early Zionists and the first generation of Israeli leaders were shrewd strategists who, with the support of the world’s top powers (the Soviet Union and the United States), were advancing towards a far-fetched goal of creating a Jewish state in the middle of the Arab world.

This article considered the efforts to establish a special relationship with the United States, attracting international support, the increasing influence of Israeli lobbies in American governments and the construction of a secret arsenal of nuclear weapons among the achievements of the previous leaders of the Zionist regime and wrote: The main mistake of subsequent leaders, as Israeli intellectual scholars have repeatedly emphasized, was the decision to retain, occupy and gradually colonize the West Bank and Gaza, as part of (Zionism’s) effort to create a “Greater Israel”. This occupation created an inevitable tension between Israel’s Jewish character and its (alleged) democratic system. This means that this regime was able to remain a Jewish state only by suppressing the political rights of Palestinians and creating a racist system. Israel was able to deal with its problems through ethnic cleansing or genocide of most Palestinians.

Referring to the disgraceful agreement of “Camp David” and the uncontrollable appetite of the Zionists in the continuation of the occupation in the lands belonging to the Palestinians and the attack on Lebanon in 1982, Foreign Policy wrote: Successive Israeli governments have acted in ways that have made the problems worse and wider in scope. Meanwhile, establishing peace with the Palestinians requires that Israel stop expanding settlements in the occupied territories and cooperate with the Palestinians to establish an efficient, effective and legitimate government.

This article cited the latest and most obvious example of Israel’s strategic failure as its strong opposition to international efforts to negotiate Iran’s nuclear program activities and added: Israel, for strategic reasons, wants to have the only nuclear weapon in the Middle East. For this reason, Netanyahu and his hard-line supporters, along with AIPAC (the American-Israeli Public Relations Committee) and the more militant groups in the US-Israel lobby, strongly opposed it. These hardliners played a key role in persuading then US President Donald Trump to withdraw from the agreement in 2018.

Foreign Policy wrote in the end: Countries that do not think intelligently about their strategic options can cause significant damage to themselves and others. In this regard, Israel’s actions have threatened the long-term perspective of this regime, and its vindictive and short-sighted behavior has caused enormous damage to innocent Palestinians for decades. More importantly, Israel’s defense strategies have had little chance of ending Palestinian resistance. On the other hand, the proximity of the United States to this erratic and thoughtless ally has created serious problems for the United States. The Israelis are creating another wave of anti-American terrorism while taking advantage of the attention and resources (financial, weapons) of the Americans. The best that Israel’s supporters in the United States can do is pressure Democrats and Republicans to try to reverse the course of the Jewish state, a goal that shows no clear signs of happening anytime soon.
