PNN – Referring to the presence of the UAE and the Zionist regime in Sudan’s developments, the Sudanese expert said: The gold mines and the ideology of Arabization of Sudan are the main motivation for the presence of foreign actors in this country.
Sudan, a country with a rich history and diverse culture in the Horn of Africa, has become a hotbed of internal conflicts and rivalries, as well as the active presence of foreign actors, since the fall of former President Omar al-Bashir in 2019. The overthrow of Omar al-Bashir’s government, which came after years of popular protests and internal pressure, ushered in a new era of instability in Sudan. Although the Sudanese Armed Forces, or army, and the Rapid Reaction Forces acted as allies in the overthrow of the government, since April 2023, the war between the two groups has brought the country to the brink of collapse. These conflicts have claimed thousands of lives, displaced millions, and made the humanitarian situation extremely critical.
Meanwhile, the presence of foreign actors, especially the UAE, and its support for the rapid reaction forces that are responsible for the killings in Sudan, raises the question of why the Horn of Africa has become so important to foreign actors.
In a conversation with Sudanese expert Nasser Ibrahim, Mehr reporter attempted to examine recent developments in Sudan; the details of this conversation are as follows:

Why are Darfur and the city of Fasher in western Sudan of strategic importance?
The fall of Fasher is a symbol of widespread human rights violations. In just three days, more than 1,500 civilians, mostly from the Masalit ethnic group, were killed and subjected to ethnic cleansing. It is said that these developments are not purely domestic and that foreign actors have played a significant role in recent events. Please explain the domestic roots of the crisis and the role of foreign backers in the recent developments?
Let me summarize: Yes, Fasher has fallen to the rapid reaction forces. Many people have lost their lives; unfortunately, ethnic cleansing is taking place. People are being killed there because of their religion, language, and skin color. The terrorist organization of the Rapid Reaction Forces is supported by the Emirates and this group is practically committing massacres. The Zionist regime is also involved in this. Another actor is Haftar’s group in Libya. In addition, the Chadian regime in the Central African Republic also supports this group. So, what is happening in Sudan is not limited to Fasher; similar incidents are also taking place in other cities in Sudan.
Foreign and domestic actors are showing similar behavior in the process of developments in Sudan. Therefore, the situation is very bad and serious. I had mentioned earlier in a conversation with you that there is an agreement in Sudan called the Framework Agreement that the Rapid Reaction Forces tried to impose on the army, but the army did not accept this agreement. For this reason, the UAE tried to impose the Rapid Reaction Forces on the country and planned and carried out a coup to bring them to power. The army did not accept the coup and resisted, which led to the start of a civil war in the country.
Unfortunately, since 2023, Sudan has been at war, and this is a human tragedy. The Rapid Reaction Forces have an Arab perspective and recognize non-Arab Sudanese as a minority and do not grant them political or economic rights. In other words, we are witnessing such a situation because of the ideology of “Arabizing Sudan”. The army resists this policy.
What are the reasons why Sudan is important to foreign interventionist countries?
The UAE’s presence in the developments in Sudan is clear and proven to everyone. A significant number of drones have fallen into the hands of terrorists. For this reason, the rapid reaction forces have the upper hand in the recent conflicts.
One of the reasons why the Emirates pursues such an aggressive policy is the fight against Muslims. This country has taken on the mission assigned to it by the West and is trying to fulfill it. The second reason is to control the gold mine mined in Sudan. In addition, it can be considered a continuation of the Arabization project in Sudan.
The UAE has become, so to speak, an actor supporting the rights of the Arabs; however, this situation leads to ethnic and demographic cleansing. The UAE aims to control all of Sudan’s resources and consolidate its power in Sudan. This situation is not limited to the UAE; it should be noted that Western powers, especially the Zionist regime, are behind these events.
These events should not be limited to Sudan; it is important to see what has happened in Libya, Tunisia, Lebanon, Iraq, and Yemen to understand the strategy being implemented in Sudan. They are trying to weaken central governments through a strategy of fragmentation and internal division.
How do you assess the international reactions to the recent developments in Sudan?
A slogan has recently become popular in Sudan: “Sudan has no friends but Sudan.” The truth behind this statement is that no government supports Sudan. The international community’s response to these events has generally been limited to the media.
Civil society organizations (NGOs), especially in the West, are opposing the UAE and we can see the beginning of boycott efforts in the international arena. So, we know that the UAE has no future in this area and will be a losing player. Unfortunately, just as they are targeting Iran, they are also targeting Sudan. So, we have a similar fate.
Given the current situation and the forces involved in Sudan, what are the possible solutions, prospects, and scenarios for the future of this country?
Foreign actors want to weaken the central government, divide the country and create two states in Sudan. With this strategy, they intend to weaken Sudan and turn it into a weak country isolated from regional events. Sudan was once a major supporter of Hamas and is being punished by the Zionists for this.
Furthermore, the UAE does not want democracy or elections in Sudan. The family of Mohammed Hamdan Daqlou, the leader of the Rapid Reaction Forces, is conspiring to consolidate its position as the ruler of Sudan. Therefore, their plan is to dismember Sudan, divide it into two states, and plunge it into chaos, in order to weaken Sudan and plunge it into civil war.
