PNN – In an article, referring to the American authorities’ insistence on the presence of Palestinian groups to control Gaza after the war, Hill reported the gap between America and Israel over this issue.
According to Pakistan News Network’s report, Hill news site wrote: Israel’s war in Gaza has raised questions about how the besieged coastal enclave will be managed after the end of the current conflict and exposed a growing rift between officials in Washington and Tel Aviv over the issue.
According to this news website belonging to the American Congress, several American officials, including Foreign Minister Anthony Blinken, have stated that Israel should not occupy Gaza and that this strip should still be administered by the Palestinians.
But since the beginning of the war with Hamas, the Israelis have emphasized the position that Gaza should be managed by another entity.
From the very first days of the war with Hamas, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised to control the Gaza Strip for an indefinite period of time, but he did not explain exactly what consequences this would have for the Palestinians.
In the meantime, some analysts believe that the administration of the Gaza Strip after the war depends on the outcome of this conflict and the end of the Hamas resistance group, as well as the amount of destruction left behind.
Ian Lesser, Vice President of “German Marshall Fund” (German think tank) said in this regard: “The current war between Israel and Hamas may be very long, and depending on its outcome and success, it will have different consequences.”
He then added: “In the worst case, Israel may face a war with an uncertain end, and therefore we cannot predict its exact duration in order to decide for the post-war era.”
Hill’s website further mentions that Israel controlled Gaza from 1967 to 2005 and finally withdrew from it after the great Palestinian uprising, and Hamas took control of it in 2007.
This news site has noted that although Israel and the United States both agree on the removal of Hamas from power in Gaza, they have clear differences of opinion regarding the control of this strip after the war.
Blinken once again emphasized that the United States is against the forced migration of Palestinians from Gaza and any attempt to reduce the area of this strip as Palestinian territory. He also insisted on the withdrawal of Hamas from power in line with the efforts of the Zionists.
At the same time, Netanyahu, who apparently stated that he does not seek to reoccupy Gaza, said in a meeting on Friday that Israel will take over the security control of Gaza after the war.
John Kirby, the spokesman for the White House National Security Council, also announced last Wednesday that Washington is discussing with Israel the control of Gaza in the post-war period, but he refused to provide more details.
In another part of this article, Hill mentioned that although Israel has so far resisted international pressure for a ceasefire, it is still under pressure from Washington as its closest ally.
Paul Fritz, professor of political science at Hofstra University in the United States, explained about this: “There are certainly significant gaps between the United States and Israel and other countries, but given the diplomacy that’s going on, maybe eventually the talks will work out for control of Gaza.
Referring to the high number of Palestinian casualties due to Israeli attacks, this university professor expressed concern that the killing of Palestinians would fuel their anger even after the war. He then considered this as a real danger for Israel.
Many other American officials who are against the occupation have also supported the idea of the sovereignty of the Palestinian Authority. An idea that according to some experts cannot be very efficient.
Observers in this regard say that there is no guarantee that the Palestinian people will accept the Palestinian Authority as a governing body due to its corruption, inefficiency and excessive passivity towards Israel.
Will Wechsler, the senior director of the Rafiq Hariri Center and a senior member of the Middle East program at the Atlantic Council think tank, called the return of the self-governing organizations if Israel defeats Hamas an unrealistic idea.
Antonio Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations, also emphasized the solution of creating two independent countries and added: a serious negotiation should be done to achieve this with the participation of the United States and other interested parties.
But Hamas, which represents a significant population of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, has always rejected any idea of a peaceful life alongside Israel, and even if this group loses the war against Israel, the beliefs of this Palestinian resistance group will continue.
According to the latest statistics provided by the Health Ministry of Hamas, the number of Palestinian casualties from Israeli attacks has reached more than 11,000.
On Saturday, October 15, 2023, the Palestinian resistance forces launched the surprise operation “Al-Aqsa Storm” from Gaza against the positions of the occupying Quds regime. In retaliation and compensating for its defeat, Israel, with the help of the United States and most of the Western countries, bombarded medical centers and residential houses in Gaza, which have killed nearly 11,000 Palestinians so far as a result of this criminal act.
