How does the Western media justify Israel’s genocide in Gaza?

PNN – In covering the events and developments in the field of the Gaza war, the Western media have justified the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza with different methods and have tried to make it look mild or justify the Zionists in committing mass murder.

According to media reports, most of the media affiliated with Western institutions have legitimized the crimes of the Zionist military against the Palestinians with a nationwide media line against Hamas and calling the militants terrorists. In this media method, calling Hamas as “violent terrorists” has normalized the dehumanization of siege, genocide and war and aggression against Palestinian civilians.

On October 7, the Palestinian resistance launched a surprise attack against the Zionist regime. The resistance forces hit one of the strongest armies in the world and temporarily captured several Israeli settlements around Gaza; they captured Israeli soldiers when they least expected it, pressured settlers and even managed to recover abandoned weapons and armored vehicles.

When Israel is presented as a victim

Dr. Thamar Saeed, a professor at Georgetown University, published a report on this topic and writes: The reaction of the western media in the shortest time to this incident was that leaders, famous people, athletes and western institutions rushed to the defense of Israel and condemned what they identified as Palestinian terrorism against Israeli civilians in the most horrible terms; Even though such reactions have never included the situation of the Palestinians, despite the violence and killings of Israel against the Palestinians for more than 75 years.

According to media reports, just before the Hamas revenge operation, Israel had killed more than 200 Palestinians. Israeli settlers who live in heavily militarized settlements under the protection of the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) committed massacres in Hawara and Jerusalem.

According to the report of the Georgetown University professor, the Zionist-affiliated media not only exonerate Israel from any responsibility, but also present it as a victim. They never mention that the Palestinians are resisting colonial nuclear power with an army that is among the 20 most powerful in the world.

The reaction of the international media to this revenge was quick, targeted and organized. These media outlets acted in a concerted global campaign, all aimed at tarnishing the Palestinian resistance and portraying the events as an “unprovoked attack” by Hamas on Israel. They have portrayed the resistance as aimless, bloodthirsty savages whose main goal is to kill Jewish civilians.

The Zionist regime occupied Gaza in 1967 and left it in 2005. However, since 2007, Gaza has been under a land, sea and air blockade, turning it into the world’s largest open-air prison. There is a lot of evidence of Palestinian children being killed, wounded and pulled out from under the rubble in this brutal Israeli attack against Palestinians and in similar operations over the past 75 years, and all this time, we have not heard a cry to stop the killing of Palestinian children.

Samar Saeed says: The media’s excessive focus on Hamas, as if it is the only group in the Palestinian resistance, and emphasizes deliberate violence, is aimed at dehumanizing the rights of the Palestinians and justifying the genocide in Gaza and blaming Hamas for the suffering of the Palestinians.

Human rights lawyer Nora Erakat told a media outlet that the crisis in Gaza, where Israel’s relentless bombardment has continued since Saturday, is a “human disaster.”

He says Western leaders and the mainstream media have relied on racist and Islamophobic extremists to create a false consensus that “war is inevitable and any consequences are Hamas’s fault, and as a result, they blame the victims more for their massacres.”

He also condemned Israel’s order to evacuate 1.1 million Gazans under the threat of a ground invasion. “What we are witnessing is a genocidal campaign. You cannot forcibly relocate 1.1 million Palestinians into a 225 square mile cordoned off area. “There is nowhere for them to go.”

The Palestinian people do not have an army to stop the aggressors who own the army

Many international media not only exonerate Israel from any responsibility, but also present the occupiers as a victim in the eyes of the world’s public opinion. They never emphasize that the Palestinians, with an army that is considered among the 20 most powerful armies in the world, have resisted this military power, which is fully armed and even has a large number of nuclear warheads, for more than 75 years.

Let’s make the picture of the Palestinians a little more open; Israel now has 241 fighter/interceptor aircraft, 153 training aircraft, as well as 11 tanker and refueling aircraft, which ranks it fourth in the world in this category; they also have an iron dome. Conscription is mandatory and there are about 170,000 active military personnel, while more than three million men and women are enlisted to serve in the military. This has made Israel the most militarized nation in the world.

According to the estimate of 2019, the budget allocated for the Air Force sector is more than 20.5 billion dollars, which places it in the 15th place in the ranking of global military expenditures. America is the main provider of this military power and gave Israel 225.2 billion dollars between 1951 and 2022; this is what the unarmed Palestinian resistance is up against.

Genocide which is called war

Many international media consider the genocide that is being carried out in a closed fence of the Palestinians as a “war”. Al Jazeera columnist Andrew Mitrovica says in this context: This is not an “attack”; it is not an “invasion”; not even a “war”; this is genocide.

He adds: For decades, a series of immune Israeli governments and their useful proxies and settler militias have waged an increasing genocide, bit by bit, with the approval, consent and explicit encouragement of Western governments in a predictable show of practical solidarity.

These media present Israelis as white hats who are always innocent victims and Palestinians as black hats who are always guilty. They do not say anything about the human consequences of this incomprehensible slaughter; they do not show the obstacles to the entry of the necessities of life – food and water. When they prevent the delivery of fuel and electricity to homes and hospitals, their cameras are off; they make the bombing of UN-affiliated schools, where desperate Palestinian families have taken shelter, a normal mistake in military actions.

The attack on ambulances and the explosion of rockets carrying white phosphorus gas, which burned Gaza residents to the bone, have also been overlooked by the Israeli propaganda media. But these issues are never far from the eyes of the nations and freedom seekers of the world.

Conclusion

Free reporters and journalists who are not affiliated with western institutions have many documents that are a clear account of the unfortunate situation of the Palestinians, not in this war but in recent decades. For example:

“Jonathan Cook” is a British writer and freedom journalist who wrote his observations about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict while in the occupied territories.

On his website, he writes about the current war between Israel and Palestine, in a report entitled “Parroting official lies of the Western media paves the way for genocide in Gaza”: How did we get to the point where Israel can order half the population of Gaza – over a million people – to move from their little prison north to their little prison south in one of the most crowded places on earth? The Palestinians in Gaza were given 24 hours to do so or face dire consequences.

The population reduction order is seen as “advance warning,” a concept Israel has toyed with for years to flout international law and legitimize the targeting of civilians. Anyone who remains in northern Gaza, including children, the sick, the elderly, and the disabled, will face a terrible fate.

He emphasizes: Western leaders talk about the psychological traumas of the Jews – the traumas that their governments have often been responsible for – and as a result the need not to offend the Jews by criticizing Israel; France and Germany have banned demonstrations in solidarity with Gaza, and Britain is following suit.

None of these leaders seem concerned that families in Gaza, now expelled, live with the trauma of being driven from their homes by Israel multiple times at gunpoint; especially during the Great Depression in 1948 and during the 1967 war.

This latest deportation order forces them to relive that trauma — as well as the horrors of living under Israeli bombs — not just in their imaginations, but in the real world. They are once again ethnically cleansed by their serial torturer.

For years, he said, Israeli leaders have secretly worked with Western allies to pressure Egypt to rebuild the Sinai desert next to Gaza as a fictitious Palestinian state. These intrigues are one of the reasons why Cairo has kept its short land border with Gaza strictly closed. Now 2.3 million Palestinians are under pressure in front of that border and are demanding to leave the killing fields.

He emphasizes: In fact, the Westerners have given Israel the green light for genocide. They are giving Israel the green light to do whatever it wants. For example, “Starmer”, the leader of the opposition Labor Party and the possible next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, said that he supports “Israel’s right to defend itself” by implementing a “total blockade”.

Yoav Galant, the Minister of Defense of the Zionist regime, proposed the anti-human idea that “Palestinians are human animals” and after that these oppressed people were deprived of food, water and power. Back to Starmerke’s support, he has supported Israel’s genocide-style war crimes.

“Jonathan Cook” writes in his article referring to the strategy of BBC World in supporting Israel: After years of criticism, BBC journalists continue to show that they have not learned anything every time they use such bigoted language in their coverage of the latest Israeli offensive in Gaza. Their careers depend on them not learning anything.

In the continuation of the article, he publishes an image based on another reporter’s assessment of the one-sidedness of the BBC in this war in favor of the Israelis.

According to Dr. Samrasaeed’s research report; Western capitalist media organizations refuse to consider or analyze the Palestinian resistance movement as an anti-colonial struggle for freedom and justice. They continuously introduce the Palestinian revolutionary forces as the perpetrators of violence and terrorism, so that not only the resistance and freedom fighters, but all Palestinians are known as evil people to the human society.

He argues: It is impossible to consider a liberation movement that did not resort to revolutionary armed struggle against the settlers, for example in South Africa. In any case, resistance is a method of struggle that has been used in all its forms in all liberation struggles around the world from Haiti, South Africa, Algeria and Vietnam.

Palestine is no exception to this rule and the Palestinians will continue to fight until they liberate their land and gain their freedom. This is something that the whole world should know that it is impossible to turn a blind eye to the fraudulent rights of these people and continuously support Israel’s occupation and house burning in various forms and expect silence from the Palestinian people.
