PNN – Referring to the anger and frustration of the Israeli Prime Minister over Iraq’s resistance at the United Nations, a Turkish expert said: The Israeli regime cannot tolerate “strong resistance” in Iraq.
In his speech at the 80th United Nations General Assembly, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that he would attack and destroy resistance groups in Iraq. Iraqi Foreign Minister Fawad Hussein immediately reacted to these remarks, stating: Attacking the resistance groups is an attack on Iraq. This raises questions about the US position on possible Israeli attacks on Iraq, a country it calls a strategic partner.
In order to examine the possibility of an Israeli attack on Iraq and the future of the resistance, Mehr correspondent conducted a conversation with Hasan Akaras, a Turkish expert in the field of resistance, the details of which are as follows:
In his speech at the 80th United Nations General Assembly, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatened resistance groups in Iraq and claimed to destroy them. Immediately after this speech, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fawad Hussein reacted to these remarks, saying: “An attack on the resistance groups is an attack on Iraq.” As you know, Washington generally sees Iraq as a strategic partner. Do you think the United States will allow Israel to attack Iraq?
The Prime Minister of the Israeli occupation regime, in his speech at the United Nations in a nearly empty hall, directly threatened the Iraqi resistance that he would attack it. Netanyahu’s body language, facial expressions, and anger were completely at odds with the face of a leader claiming victory. He appeared angry and furious, and repeatedly threatened the very forces he claimed to have defeated. If the Zionist regime had truly defeated the leaders of the resistance, such as Hamas, Hezbollah, Yemen, and Iran, which it has fought against for the past two years, would it have felt the need to make such a threat? Therefore, we cannot speak of the defeat of the resistance, as Tel Aviv and some media circles are portraying.

Netanyahu’s claims at the UN against Iran and the threat to the Iraqi resistance
Why did Netanyahu make this threat? Because Iraq, like Syria, is a country with a strategic location and unique characteristics in terms of resistance. The Israeli occupation regime does not want a developed, powerful, and effective resistance structure in Iraq.
We have long been closely watching the formation of US policies in Syria and Iraq. While the US claims to see Iraq as a strategic partner, this approach has never aligned with the views of the Iraqi people and government. Successive US administrations have always viewed Iraq as a means to ensure Tel Aviv’s security in the region and protect its interests. Therefore, there is no possibility for the US to prevent a possible Israeli attack on Iraq.
We saw this clearly in the example of Qatar. When Hamas leaders were targeted in Doha, Qatar’s air defense systems and all its radars were effectively blinded. American media reported that the Trump administration was aware of the attack in advance and had approved it. If a similar situation were to arise in Iraq, the United States is not expected to take a different stance.
The truth is that resistance stems from a mindset, an ideology, and a spirit of defense. People develop this mindset over time to confront oppression and tyranny. If we see resistance groups in the region, it is a reflection of this mindset. Why does Netanyahu, while witnessing the resistance of the Palestinian people in Gaza, think he can destroy this mindset by attacking resistance forces in the region?
We cannot see resistance groups simply as armed groups. We must say that they are a reflection of a social consciousness, a shared belief, and an ideology. This consciousness and belief germinate in the hearts of the people against occupation, oppression, and tyranny. Netanyahu believes he can destroy the resistance through assassination of leaders and massacre of civilians, or at least create a divide between the people and the resistance. However, the events in Gaza, Lebanon and Yemen prove otherwise. Just look at what has happened in all these areas in the last two years. The situation in Gaza is clear. Have we witnessed a retreat from the resistance? No. Thousands of people, including Hezbollah leaders, have been martyred in Lebanon and cities have been destroyed. Have the Lebanese people turned their backs on the resistance? No. The situation in Yemen is similar. The people strongly and resolutely support the resistance and the leader of the resistance.
This situation shows us that bombs can destroy cities, they can martyr resistance leaders with bombs weighing several tons, they can also massacre thousands of people, but they cannot extinguish the fire of resistance in hearts and minds. The situation in Iraq is similar. Resistance groups have always defended the dignity of the people, the independence, and the freedom of the country.
The Zionist regime, due to the genocide in Gaza, the massacre in Lebanon, and the attack on Yemen, has fallen into deep isolation and has become a fragile regime that is supported by the United States and some European countries. This is an achievement for the axis of resistance.
We know that Netanyahu wanted to fight not only against Gaza and the Palestinian resistance, but also against the axis of resistance on all fronts. To this end, he has repeatedly tried to take major steps and draw all these fronts into the war. The assassination of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and the illegal attacks against the Islamic Republic of Iran in June were all attempts to spread the flames of Gaza throughout the region. Netanyahu thus attempted to reduce his isolation and fully align the Western Front with him. However, this did not happen. The threat to Iraq can be seen as part of this war-mongering and expansionist spirit of the plan.
