PNN – After the start of Al-Aqsa storm operation, missile attacks on American bases in Syria and Iraq intensified; An issue that shows that the resistance battalions are determined to expel American soldiers from Baghdad.
In January 2020, and only two days after the assassination of General Soleimani and Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis in the drone operation of the American invaders, the members of the Iraqi parliament, in a revolutionary act, approved the decision to expel foreign military forces from their country. This resolution of the parliament specifically targeted the American military forces because they were stationed in 12 military bases in this country since 2014 and within the framework of the forces of the international coalition against ISIS.
Despite this decision of the Iraqi Parliament, the invaders have been throwing stones on the way out of the territory of the western neighbor for the last four years. However, after the start of Al-Aqsa storm operation, missile attacks on American bases in Syria and Iraq intensified; An issue that shows that the resistance battalions are determined to expel American soldiers from Iraq.

Now it seems that two approaches to the expulsion of American military soldiers have been placed on the agenda of the Iraqi government and popular mobilization, and they are being pursued and implemented in parallel. First, the resistance forces and Hashd al-Shaabi in the military and security debate have conducted more than one hundred and twenty operations against American military bases in Iraq and Syria in the form of various operations since October 7th. The second approach is the political and legal process, which in the government of Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani and the parliament of this country, after the assassination of Martyr Abu Taqawi, the deputy commander of Al-Hashd al-Shaabi operations that happened last Wednesday, once again heated up the demand to expel the occupiers. In this way, in recent days, some representatives started working to prepare the draft and the final resolution for the expulsion of the Americans, and they are collecting signatures on the floor of the parliament.
As it was said, although the decision to deport Americans was issued in the past years, it was non-binding and did not have operational and enforcement capabilities. At the same time, the Americans are trying to prevent the implementation of this intention of Baghdad by means of two economic and security levers. Unfortunately, Iraq’s economic and foreign exchange revenues are at the disposal of the United States banks, and this is one of the main issues in the dependence of the Iraqi economy. But in the security issue, during the past months, the dormant cells of ISIS have been activated by Washington in Iraq and Syria, so that parallel to the attacks on the resistance forces against the American bases in Syria and Iraq, we have seen an increase in ISIS operations in these two countries, especially Iraq. While the average number of ISIS operations from January to October 2023 was nineteen, but since October 7th, more than twenty-four terrorist operations have been carried out in Iraq, and this is a sign of the unity and cohesion of ISIS and the Americans.
With these interpretations, today’s superior field situation of the resistance has been able to be imposed on the legal and diplomatic process in Iraq, and as Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah pointed out in his speech on Friday, today is a good opportunity to expel the Americans in Iraq. This is despite the fact that the resistance groups in Iraq have high capabilities in the military and security field and can provide the security of this country against terrorist groups alongside the army. Although the unity and solidarity in Iraq for the expulsion of the American troops has increased compared to the past, some Sunni groups, especially the Barzani Party and the Kurdistan Region, are strongly against the withdrawal of the Americans from Iraq. This is while five of the 14 American military bases in Iraq are located in the Kurdistan region, one of which is in the “Atroosh” region, 3 bases in the “Al-Harir” region, one large base in “Erbil”, and another large base located in “Dhok”.
