In this regard, we had a conversation with Sergey Nikolaevich Baburin, a Russian politician and a candidate for the 2018 presidential election and a candidate for the 2024 Russian presidential election, who, of course, withdrew at the end of January, to discuss issues such as the Russian presidential election, war in Ukraine and developments in Gaza which is scheduled to be held on March 17.
Although you were one of the candidates for the presidential election, why did you withdraw at the end of January? Explain to the Iranian audience, when Putin has a high vote in Russia, what is the use or effect of the presence of other election candidates in this election?
As you know, Russia is at war, but actually, not only the war with Ukraine, but the war with the West. When Russia protects its civilizational values, the West seeks to destroy these values, so I support the actions that Putin is taking to protect these values, but we disagree on a few issues about the country’s internal politics.
I also participated in the 2018 elections, and it was important for me to show the Russian people that we should follow our own path, that is, Russianism, and pay attention to the experience of Iran and the experience of the Islamic Revolution in order to change the system of our country. I emphasize that the Islamic Republic of Iran has been able to stand against the West for many years, because it has chosen its own path and insisted on its religious, cultural and traditional values. In 2018, the president heard my words in this regard and paid attention to them, so that in 2020 we had amendments related to changing the constitution.
In 2022, Putin ordered military security alert because the West was trying to portray Ukraine as Russia’s archenemy, and we supported the actions Putin took without any doubt. When we hear more criticism of our economic and social policy, we try to give more support to Mr. President, and these are the principles that my party has been following and giving importance to for the past 30 years. I am very happy that Mr. President cares about these principles.
In a party meeting that we held, we suggested that Putin run on behalf of our party, but he decided to participate in the elections on behalf of the people, not a particular party. Therefore, I decided to participate in the elections on behalf of my party because I wanted to point out the flaws in our politics. After thinking together, we asked ourselves that when I decide to participate in the elections, I will get a number of votes and why should the votes of the president decrease with my participation in the elections? Therefore, I chose to withdraw.

I think my voters are those who generally support Putin’s policies but see flaws in our policies. I believed that in such a situation where we are at war, my participation in the elections is not in the interest of our country. Unfortunately, we have an internal enemy and they are interested in the West and are trying to disrupt our elections. That’s why I gave up my candidacy in the elections and publicly addressed Putin and said very simply: We should not back down in the war with the West and continue the reforms related to the constitution and try to keep the property in the hands of the people in the course of our economic policy.
Also, I told Putin not to back down in terms of unification within the historical borders of the country. I must say that after my withdrawal from the elections, the supporters of the West were no longer present. And I am sure that Putin will get more than 84% of votes, because the other three representatives are not serious characters in my opinion. I believe that we do not have a presidential election in March, but rather a referendum on people’s trust in Putin, and I think that Putin will get enough votes.
A few days ago, Mr. Putin gave an interview with American Journalist Tucker Carson, which was seen about 200 million times on Twitter. The important point of this interview, which many former Western officials stated, was that this interview revealed the true face of the Western media and exposed the lies that the Western media told about the war in Ukraine. What is your opinion about this?
I did not see this interview, but as I know Putin, I know what he said, and on the other hand, I know that the West does not want and cannot understand Russia and understand the President’s words. I think the West cannot understand Russia in any way and I doubt that they will understand Russia after seeing this interview. Because everything that is taught in Russia and in Iran is based on love and we bravely defend this love and these people. We are very happy to be friends with those who understand us.
With the start of the war in Ukraine, America’s power was put to the test. Everyone believed that the way the United States dealt with Russia’s military operations against Ukraine would show the true power of the United States. But in practice, we saw that America did not act as a superpower and fell short against Russia. Therefore, many believe that this is the first change in the ruling order of the world and the sign of the beginning of the new world order, and we have witnessed such changes in the developments in Gaza. What is your opinion about the change in the world order that Russia has challenged?
This question is very important. I would like to point out two things and say why Russia is slowly fighting in Ukraine and not showing its military power to the whole world. Russia could take Ukraine in two to three weeks, but unfortunately, we cannot convince the public opinion in two or three weeks, and this requires a generation change. Mr. Putin decided to gradually advance the war, and this action coincided with a gradual move by the United States. It is an illusion to consider Joe Biden the main owner of America; He is a puppet used as a tool. But why don’t they use their military power against Russia in Ukraine war in full? I speak my mind because the Americans are waiting to be able to go to China.
We see that everyone in the European Union is ready to help Kiev in the war in Ukraine. Many people do not see that it is actually America that is fighting with Russia.
For more than four months, we have witnessed an unprecedented genocide in Gaza. How do you look at this genocide as a Russian politician and why did the world community have two different approaches to the war between Russia and Ukraine? Despite the fact that America and Europe sanctioned Russia in the Ukraine conflict, they refused to sanction the Zionist regime. What is the reason for this duality in the foreign policy of Europe and America?
This behavior is caused by the double standard of America and NATO, which is seen in these two wars. When I came to Tehran last fall, I came with the flag of Palestine, not with the flag of my party. For me, Palestinians are heroic people. They have been fighting for the freedom of their country for several generations. Ayatollah Khomeini’s decision to name Quds Day was a very important event.
People should know how to defend their homeland. I think it would be amazing if Israel would break up. I am very surprised by the politics of Israel, the Israelis themselves must understand that Israel cannot exist anymore. This tragedy that occurred in Nawaz Gaza showed that Israelis have a problem with civilizational values ​​and we should not allow the Zionists to take over Gaza. Every person can live as he likes and Putin’s position on this issue is very clear.
