He wrote: We are facing the revival of the 2011 scenario, which the current parties prepared for the attack on Aleppo, which surprised the Syrian authorities and Russian allies, and this surprise resulted in the control of more than half of Aleppo by the attackers. In order to avoid further losses, the Syrian army is tactically standing back to organize its situation and prepare to recapture the city and drive out the invading forces, similar to what was done a few years ago, and it seems that the buses will again be seen in the coming weeks and months.
Atwan said: What is going on in Syria now is a repetition of the scenario that the United States carried out in Iraq from the beginning of 1991, i.e. the siege and severe starvation until the time of its military invasion and occupation after 12 years and overthrew the former regime; But this scenario is not compatible with Syria, which has a strong army, a popular base, a strategic ally such as Russia and President Putin, and an axis of resistance led by Iran, which is militarily strong, and is doomed to failure.

When the Syrian army confronts this plan and defends the city of Aleppo, it does not only do so for the sake of Syria’s sovereignty and maintaining its territorial integrity, but also defends Iran, the leader of the resistance axis, and Russia and its strategic interests. This interference, no matter how big it is, has a negative impact on Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his government, as well as on Turkey’s national security and its relations with Russia… This attack is not only a violation of the Astana agreements and the “Sochi” understandings, and perhaps the joint Syrian and Russian attacks that It has led to the death of more than 500 armed people, which is the prelude to the military confrontation between Türkiye and Russia.
Atwan continued: If Erdoğan seeks to return the Syrian refugees in Turkey to Syria, he is very wrong because the opposite will happen and hundreds of thousands of new Syrian refugees will flow to the borders of Turkey seeking safety from Uncle Erdoğan. The use of new drones and missiles by Al-Nusra Front and its members, which are said to have been taken from Ukraine and are monitored by Ukrainian advisers, definitely indicates Russia’s red line and shows Turkey’s secret and silent role in the Ukraine war.
He stated: When I met Syrian President Bashar al-Assad at his home in May 2023, he told me that he did not trust Erdogan and would not meet with him unless all Turkish forces left Syria and under no circumstances.
