PNN – French President Emmanuel Macron met with a number of former presidents of the country today (Monday) at the same time that even his allies are under increasing pressure to introduce a new prime minister.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network, France 24 news channel wrote: Emmanuel Macron on Monday stepped up efforts to find a new prime minister, two months after a political deadlock caused by incomplete parliamentary elections.
He met with Nicolas Sarkozy and Francois Hollande, two other former presidents of France.
Hosting former French Prime Minister Bernard Cazeno and Xavier Bertrand, a senior far-right official as possible candidates for the prime minister’s seat, was among Macron’s plans for the day.
France has been governed without a permanent government since July 7th parliamentary elections in the country, which resulted in a leftist grand coalition in parliament.
Two possible candidates for the prime minister seat in France, former prime minister Cazeneau from the center left and former minister Bertrand from the right party had separate meetings with Macron.
It is customary in France to consult with former presidents in the context of important national decisions, and for this reason, Macron hosted Sarkozy, whose party activities are predominantly right-wing, and Hollande, the former socialist president of France, at the Elysee.
Macron has so far refused to accept the candidate of the left-wing party and said that he has no chance of winning a vote of confidence in the parliament.
But in the midst of the current political deadlock in France and at the same time as the Olympic and Paralympic Games are being held, Macron, who has been in power for less than three years, does not have much time to introduce a new prime minister, and the disappointment of his opponents with his performance is increasing day by day.
Speculations about Cazeneau as a possible candidate for Macron
AFP reporter reported that Macron met this morning with Cazeneau, a former socialist official and prime minister during the last months of Hollande’s presidency between 2012 and 2017.
From the point of view of political commentators, Cazeno has a good chance to be nominated by Macron as prime minister, although his appointment is far from expected.
An official close to Macron told AFP: Cazeno’s appointment is possible, but there is still no certainty about it.
Kazeno is 61 years old and has been the Minister of Interior for many years, including during the 2015 terrorist attacks, and is respected by various political parties.
However, the left-wing “France Invincible” party has promised not to vote for him.
But in the shadow of possible doubts, Macron also planned to host Bertrand at the meeting on Monday evening. Bertrand was the former prime minister of France and one of the right-wing leaders of the “Eau de France” region in the north of France.
Former French President Sarkozy, who remains an influential figure on the right after being convicted of embezzlement after leaving power on charges he denies, described Bertrand’s nomination as a good choice and opposed Cazeno’s nomination.
Elysee sources, who asked to remain anonymous, did not deny the existence of a third candidate.
Speculations are focused on Thierry Beaudet, the head of the advisory group of the French Economic, Social and Environmental Council, who is a completely unknown figure to the French.
