The expansion of the wave of student protests in England with the flavor of a hunger strike

PNN – Anti-Israeli protests in British universities have entered a new stage with the increasing support of students for the hunger strike campaign and have increased the pressure to cut off academic cooperation with the Zionist regime.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, the students of Edinburgh University released a clip today and announced that they started a hunger strike due to the indifference of the university officials. In this clip, one of the protesting students said that they want the university to stop its relations with the accomplices (regime) of the occupying, apartheid and genocidal Israel as soon as possible. Referring to the 17 protesting students who have been on hunger strike for the past 21 days, he added: Seven other students, due to the indifference of the university authorities, joined this protest campaign and risked their lives so that the university would respond.

According to reports, the protesters, including those who are on hunger strike, along with dozens of pro-Palestinian students, are asking the university authorities to stop working with Amazon and Alphabet. They say that the university should withdraw 2.8 billion pounds of its capital from Alphabet and 4.9 billion pounds from Amazon due to the provision of technical services by these two companies to the Israeli army. Protesters say that the crime of providing technical services to the Israeli army is no less than selling weapons to it.

The pro-Palestinian students also want the university not to use the financial services of the American company BlackRock for investment. According to them, this company is complicit in the crimes of the Zionist regime in Gaza.

Following the example of American university students, the students of Edinburgh University set up 20 tents in the “Old College” area of the university three weeks ago and increased the pressure to boycott the Zionist regime. This protest has been supported by the university staff and the student union.

Last week, 549 employees of the university in a letter addressed to the president of the university, while supporting the students’ campaign, demanded the severance of academic relations with the Zionist regime. This letter states: We call on the university president to reinvest any profits made from investments in Israeli complicit companies to support the reconstruction of the devastated higher education sector in Gaza and to support Palestinian students.

The University of Edinburgh issued a statement saying the high death toll in Palestine was deeply distressing and we understand the strong feelings of students. The statement added: We have emphasized our commitment to abandon investment in the field of weapons and have tasked with a small working group.

The wave of student protests in England to change the model of academic relations with the Zionist regime is getting fatter day by day. From London to Manchester, Bristol, Newcastle and Leeds, students want to stop investing in companies that produce weapons for the Zionist regime or Israeli businesses that do business in the occupied territories of the West Bank.

The Financial Times wrote in a report that these protests in England are peaceful, unlike the universities in the United States, which have become violent with the intervention of the police. Of course, the London government is trying to suppress the voices of protests in universities by resorting to the thread-like and stereotypical tactics of worrying about the Jewish community living in England, but the participation of Jewish students in anti-Israel protests has questioned these claims.

During the past seven months, the Zionist regime has launched a massive massacre in Gaza and, while closing all the crossings and preventing the arrival of relief aid, has turned this area into a ruin.

This regime also plans to attack the border city of Rafah, where more than one million Palestinians have taken refuge, under the pretext of destroying Hamas. This issue has aroused international concern and they have warned the Zionist regime that such an action will worsen the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.

Last month, the United Nations Security Council approved a resolution in support of an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip for the immediate transfer of humanitarian aid; But the Zionist regime, with the full support of Washington, has ignored this resolution and continues to kill the Palestinian people.

According to reports, more than 34,000 Palestinians have been martyred and more than 77,000 others have been injured.
