PNN – In a detailed interview, the son of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah described parts of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah’s personality, his favorite books, and the figures that inspired him and his role in the family.
Sayyed Jawad Hassan Nasrallah, the son of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, the martyred Secretary General of Hezbollah in Lebanon, spoke to Al-Mayadeen Network about untold details of his father’s personal life and his relationships with his wife, children, and other family members.
Sayyed Jawad Nasrallah said that he received the news of his father’s martyrdom, like everyone else, on television, when Hezbollah’s official statement was broadcast. He described his initial feelings upon receiving the news of the martyrdom as “pure shock,” but said that the family had been somewhat prepared for such news, given the events that had preceded the statement.
Seyyed Jawad added that the nature of the protection system for Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah was fragmented and some of its elements did not know each other, so it was a bit difficult to convey the news to the family. He continued that Seyyed Hashem Safiuddin only announced the news of his father’s martyrdom when the martyr’s body was identified and the rescue forces saw him with their own eyes.
Last meeting with father
Regarding his father’s prediction of martyrdom, Seyyed Jawad said that he probably knew about a year in advance that he would be martyred and prepared his children for this event, but at the same time, he did not talk much and did not burden his grief on anyone. According to Seyyed Jawad, before his martyrdom, martyr Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah said in farewell to his wife that this was the last time we would meet. Nasrallah’s son said about his last meeting with his father that in June 2024, the meeting took place in the company of his grandfather and uncles, and their conversations were personal and family, and about past memories.
Seyyed Javad also recounts stories from his childhood, quoting his father. His father used to say: When we wanted to play soccer, we didn’t have money to buy numbered shirts, so we would bring a can of paint and wear white shirts and write the numbers in paint.
The childhood of martyr Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah was the main cornerstone in the formation of his human character and his inclination towards the poor, simple people, and the marginalized and oppressed.
Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and deep study
Seyyed Jawad considers the martyr Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah to be a very studious person who conducted his studies with understanding and depth. He says: Despite all his busyness, Sayyid read a book at least every two days. Nasrallah believed that knowledge, consultation, questioning, and not setting limits in conversation open horizons and increase human knowledge.
Seyyed Jawad said that his father even took and read the books of his sister, who was studying finance and management at university. She read literary and political books, as well as the memoirs of presidents and officials of the Zionist and American security services, to see what their mindset was.
Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah was a “democrat”
The son of martyr Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah describes his father as “very democratic” and says: You could ask him anything you wanted, you could object to anything you wanted, and he would explain it to you. He was not a critic, but rather he would state the facts. He said that Sayyed Nasrallah guided him in choosing books, especially ideological books.
He adds that Martyr Nasrallah always emphasized reading the Holy Quran and said that reading the Quran with certainty has great value.
According to the son of Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah, the book that Martyr Nasrallah recommended reading was Imam Khomeini’s “Forty Hadiths.” He was also very interested in the Mahdism debate. Sayyid Jawad says that we always asked him about Mahdism and put aside political issues and asked him about the Revelation.
Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah as a father and husband
Seyyed Jawad spoke about Martyr Seyyed Nasrallah as a father and said: A situation that requires decisiveness, he was decisive, he never raised his hand against anyone, but he would nail you to the spot with his gaze. For example, when he said enough, you could not repeat that action again.
He considers his father’s dominant characteristic to be kindness, advice, and clarifying issues, adding that he did not impose anything on others without reason and explained the reasons for things. Seyyed Javad emphasizes that his father was cheerful, but even his jokes did not throw him off balance. What distinguished him as a father was that he taught generosity and forgiveness.
Was Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah crying?
Seyyed Jawad said that he did not remember his father crying over the martyrdom of his brother Seyyed Hadi, except for the moment he received the news of his martyrdom, when he was alone with himself for a moment. But he would cry when he heard a song or a memory or watched a program about the martyrs’ families. His tears were generous for the martyrs’ families.
He adds that Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah was upset about raising some divisive issues in society.
Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah’s greatest wish
The greatest wish of the martyr of the nation was the liberation of Quds. Seyyed Jawad said that he believed that if he did not support this cause and did not sacrifice his life, property, and children for this cause, what value would his life have? Seyyed was a complete “nationalist” because he sacrificed his son for the country.
The relationship between Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and the people
Seyyed Javad emphasized that with his constant presence among the people and on social networks, he tried to convey the people’s messages to his father, especially on sensitive issues, but on other issues and to reduce pressure from him, he conveyed the people’s messages to the martyr Seyyed Safi al-Din.
Inspirational figures for Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah
Regarding Lebanese politicians, he believed that Nabih Berri knew them intimately and was experienced in dealing with them. He also significantly liked and respected the former Lebanese Prime Minister, Salim Al-Hoss.
Regarding the prominent figures whose biographies Martyr Sayyed Nasrallah was influenced by and whose biographies he valued, in addition to Imam Musa Sadr, we can mention Sayyed Abbas Mousavi and Imam Khomeini. Sayyed Jawad emphasized that his father was greatly influenced by the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them).
