The prospect of a ceasefire in Gaza/Why is Netanyahu afraid of the end of the war?

PNN – In light of the contradictory statements made by the Zionists in response to the new US proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza, the regime’s position remains ambiguous and deceptive, and Netanyahu himself is grasping at every means to continue the war for several reasons, including preventing the collapse of his cabinet.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, American media reported President Donald Trump’s statement that he was about to announce good news about the end of the war in the Gaza Strip. By noon of the same day, news was released that the Hamas movement had agreed to the US proposal for a 60-day ceasefire, which is a prelude to the end of the war, and of course, Hamas sources confirmed this.

While the Hebrew media had created an optimistic atmosphere regarding the conclusion of the negotiations and announced the visit of the Israeli negotiating team to Cairo, the atmosphere quickly became ambiguous, as Zionist sources published reports about Israel’s rejection of the new ceasefire proposal. At the same time, Steve Whittaker, the US envoy to the Middle East, said that he had made a proposal that Israel would accept and that Hamas should accept.

Details of developments in ceasefire negotiations over the past few days

Sources familiar with the Gaza ceasefire negotiations announced: The US envoy presented a plan to Hamas that includes a 60-day ceasefire, and on the first day of the ceasefire, five Israeli prisoners will be released, and on the 60th day, five more prisoners will be released.

According to the sources, Trump will guarantee a 60-day ceasefire and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, in line with a ceasefire agreement signed in January. The offer also includes the release of a certain number of Palestinian prisoners, the unconditional entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza from day one, and the start of negotiations for a permanent ceasefire.

Hamas’s Smart Flexibility in Negotiations

As mentioned, the Hamas movement agreed to this proposal and showed a lot of flexibility. Of course, we should note that this ceasefire, although initially temporary, is supposed to provide conditions for negotiations on a permanent ceasefire, according to the proposed document.

This proposal also does not take away Hamas’ negotiating power, as half of the living Israeli prisoners, along with the bodies of the dead prisoners, will still remain in the hands of the movement.

A source close to the Hamas movement announced that the United States has committed to leading serious negotiations that will lead to a complete cessation of hostilities and to guarantee that there will be no return to military operations if negotiations fail during the ceasefire period.

Hebrew media also reported that Hamas has demanded real guarantees from the United States to end the war.

Ambiguity and deception in the Zionist position

On the other hand, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes and genocide against Palestinian civilians, claimed that the release of Israeli prisoners from Gaza is his cabinet’s top priority and hopes to announce good news in this regard.

But after Netanyahu’s remarks, the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office announced that it had no intention of announcing anything and had only referred to efforts to reach an agreement.

The Israeli Radio and Television Organization also reported, citing informed sources that no progress has been seen in the negotiations and we do not know what Netanyahu means by good news.

After that, a Zionist official said that no responsible cabinet could accept Hamas’s ceasefire proposal.

Why is Netanyahu afraid of the end of the war?

As Hebrew circles admit, a long-term ceasefire in Gaza would topple Netanyahu’s cabinet and likely lead to the collapse of his coalition; especially since Netanyahu’s extremist cabinet ministers, Itamar Ben-Gweir and Bezalel Smotrich, have linked their continued presence in the coalition to the complete occupation of Gaza and the continuation of the genocidal and hunger-stricken war against the Palestinian people.

In all the negotiations for the Gaza ceasefire, it was very clear that Netanyahu would not be able to escape the pressure of Smotrich and Ben-Gwer, because their withdrawal from the coalition would mean the collapse of his cabinet and the need to hold new elections.

Simultaneously with the announcement of the new US proposal for a ceasefire, Smotrich, while participating in the celebrations of the Zionist settlers on the anniversary of the occupation of Jerusalem, reiterated his call for the complete occupation of the Gaza Strip and the establishment of settlements in the strip on Monday.

But the pressures of Smotrich and Ben-Giver are not the only reason why Netanyahu is preventing him from accepting the ceasefire agreement. There are other factors, a few of which can be mentioned:

Outlook for the Gaza ceasefire

Some analysts believe that Trump has decided to pursue his own interests in the Middle East without giving in to Netanyahu’s agenda; just as he reached a ceasefire with Yemen without Israel’s involvement in order to free himself from the heavy financial and political burden of the conflict with Yemen, thus leaving Israel alone on the Yemeni front.

Israeli expert and academic Eidat Yeshib stated in an article in the Hebrew newspaper Haaretz that Netanyahu’s relationship with Trump is at its worst, indicating that Trump is on the verge of taking a stance to remove Netanyahu.

The Zionist expert added: Trump, who deals with Israel with the logic of investment, is no longer interested in injecting more money into projects that do not directly benefit him or his country; especially since Israel received almost $18 billion in military aid from the United States last year.

Hebrew circles say that given the increasing pressure from Europe against Israel over war crimes in Gaza, the Trump administration is likely to put serious pressure on Netanyahu’s cabinet to reach a ceasefire agreement that would lead to a permanent end to the war.

Of course, we must await developments in the coming days, and given the ongoing deception of the Zionists and Netanyahu himself, we cannot definitively comment on the imminence of a ceasefire in Gaza.
