The record of US military aid to Israel

PNN – According to a new study, the United States has given Israel at least 19 billion and 900 million dollars in military aid since the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7 of last year and the beginning of the war in the Gaza Strip. The report, conducted by Brown University, shows that since the October 7, 2023 attacks, an additional $4.860 million has been spent on increasing US military operations in the region. This includes the costs of a US Navy-led campaign to suppress Yemeni Houthi attacks on commercial shipping.

According to a new study, the United States has given Israel at least 19 billion and 900 million dollars in military aid since the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7 of last year and the beginning of the war in the Gaza Strip. The report, conducted by Brown University, shows that since the October 7, 2023 attacks, an additional $4.860 million has been spent on increasing US military operations in the region. This includes the costs of a US Navy-led campaign to suppress Yemeni Houthi attacks on commercial shipping. This report, which was completed before the opening of Israel’s second front against Hezbollah in Lebanon, is one of the first reports of the estimated costs of the United States to support Israel in the conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon. Israel is the largest recipient of US military aid in history, receiving $251.12 billion adjusted for inflation since 1959, the report said.

However, the $17.9 billion spent since October 7 is by far the most military aid sent to Israel in a year. After the 1979 Israel-Egypt peace treaty, the United States has pledged billions of dollars in military aid to these two countries annually. US aid since the start of the Gaza war has included military financing, arms sales, withdrawals of at least $4.4 billion from US warehouses, and equipment deliveries, according to East. Many of the weapons delivered by the United States this year include artillery shells, 2,000-pound bombs, and precision-guided munitions. The study says the costs range from $4 billion to complete Israel’s Iron Dome and David missile defense systems, and cash for guns and jet fuel.

According to researchers, unlike publicly documented US military aid to Ukraine, it was impossible to get full details of what the US has sent to Israel since October 7; so $17.9 billion for the year is a minor figure. They pointed to efforts by the Biden administration to hide the full amount of aid and various systems through bureaucratic maneuvering. Aid to a key U.S. ally during a war that has taken a heavy toll on civilians has divided Americans in the presidential campaign. Different governments in the United States have always been committed to continued aid to Israel, and Democrats and Republicans compete with each other over the amount of support for Israel.

Since the beginning of the Gaza war, the Biden administration has strengthened its military power in the region with the aim of deterring and responding to any attack on Israeli and American forces. According to this report, this additional operation cost at least 4.86 billion dollars, which does not include US military aid to Egypt and other partners in the region.

The day Hamas broke through the walls built by Israel around Gaza to attack, the United States had 34,000 troops in the Middle East. This number reached about 50,000 people in August with the presence of two American aircraft carriers in the region after concerns about Iran’s retaliation for the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. This report also says that the United States has spent about 4.86 billion dollars during this period to deal with Houthi attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea. This Yemeni group says that it carries out its attacks with the aim of supporting the Palestinians, and their operations have caused significant costs to the maritime trade.

Missile fired at Haifa

Yesterday, Hezbollah rockets hit Haifa, the third largest city in Israel. This was the first direct attack on this city in northern Israel, which was said to have successfully bypassed the Israeli air defense systems. Hezbollah announced that it targeted a military base in the south of Haifa with “Fadi-1” missiles. According to reports, two of these missiles hit Haifa, located 17 kilometers from the Lebanese border along the Mediterranean coast of Israel; while five other planes also hit Tiberias, 65 kilometers from the Lebanese border. Israeli media reported that 10 people were injured in Haifa and Tiberias. The Israeli army announced that a total of five rockets were fired towards Haifa from Lebanon and announced that “the interceptors of the Pafandi system were fired and the debris was identified in the area and the situation is still under investigation.” According to the Israeli army,

Another 15 missiles were fired at Tiberias, some of which were intercepted. Haifa police announced that several buildings were damaged as a result of these attacks and several people were taken to a nearby hospital due to injuries. Video images from a closed-circuit camera show the moment the Hezbollah rocket hit Haifa. Meanwhile, Israel’s attacks on the positions and weapons of the Lebanese Hezbollah in the suburbs of Beirut continue. Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, announced yesterday that his country is changing the security reality in the region to ensure that an attack like the October 7 attack last year is not repeated.
