The shock of the Gaza war to the British government

PNN – The extreme position of the former British Home Secretary regarding Israel’s attack on Gaza caused an earthquake in the cabinet of the conservative Rishi Sunak government, which eventually led to important changes, including the return of former Prime Minister David Cameron to the first level of British politics.

According to Pakistan News Network; The changes in the British cabinet were carried out in such a way that the home secretary, Suella Braverman, was dismissed, and James Cleverly, who was previously the foreign minister, took Mrs. Braverman’s place, and David Cameron was appointed to the position of foreign secretary.

A few days ago, following the biggest march in support of the Palestinians in London, the British Prime Minister’s office, under the pressure of the media and pro-Palestinian parties, asked Mrs. Braverman to moderate the tone of her statement, but she did not do so, and this caused tension. In an article published in The Times, Bravarman accused the London police of adopting a double-edged approach and taking a tougher stance in dealing with right-wing demonstrations. Following the publication of this article, various parties, including the rival Labor Party, as well as the Liberal Democratic Party and some representatives of the Conservative Party, demanded the removal of Suela Bravarman.

The dismissal of the interior minister is a response to the increase in inflammation

In a conversation with Quds, Jahanbakhsh Yazidi, an expert on European issues, stated that Europe is a vast continent, and that the experience of long wars such as the First and Second World Wars has made this continent a vast region: This issue has always brought the concerns of European rulers and politicians, and they are always worried about returning to the violent era of the past; Therefore, it is natural for the authorities of these countries to show control reactions to extremism and harsh and unilateral approaches, especially to issues that are rooted in religion.

Yazidi added: In fact, with the increase of anti-Zionist sentiments in various European countries, which has intensified due to the attacks of the Zionist regime in Gaza, the atmosphere of European societies is extremely inflamed. In the meantime, the harsh words of Suella Bravarman, the former British interior minister, against the anti-Israeli demonstrations in the UK and the request to cancel these protests caused a wave of anger and frustration among political parties and among groups that support the Palestinian people and oppose the operation. In the current situation, these statements not only caused the anger of rival politicians, elites, media and public opinion towards the Minister of Interior, but also caused the loss of the support of British Prime Minister Rishi Sonak to Bravarman.

The return of rationality to British foreign policy?

The expert on European issues stated regarding the reasons for Cameron’s return to the British political sphere: One of the noisy changes in the British cabinet was the return of former Prime Minister David Cameron, who this time entered the cabinet of the conservative Sunak government as the Minister of Foreign Affairs. It seems that Cameron’s presence even in a position lower than the prime minister’s position can somehow be considered as the return of rationality in the foreign policy of Sunak’s cabinet.

According to Yazidi, it seems that Rishi Sonak is trying to send a message by choosing Cameron that England will not be on the extreme side of the story. Of course, this will not mean turning England’s back on Israel; The policy of Western countries towards Israel is the same policy; England has also shown that it has never had the desire to enter into face-to-face challenges, and if it has different or opposing positions on various international issues, it has communicated through other countries. Therefore, if Cameron and the British diplomatic system have a strong stance towards the behavior of the Zionist regime towards Gaza, they will try to convey these messages to the heads of the Zionist regime through the United States. Of course, Cameron is a veteran politician with special relationships both within the Conservative Party and more importantly in the world. His close relations with some currents in Saudi Arabia, and even with the Chinese, are significant.

Cameron’s coming to power and the war in Gaza

The professor of international relations of the university emphasized: Of course, as it was said, Cameron’s coming to power will not mean putting pressure on Israel to end the war, some based on Cameron’s comments, who previously called the Gaza Strip an open prison and rejected the two-state solution for He had supported the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. They think that he is against Israel’s policies, but he also had many supportive positions for Israel. On October 9, when Israel announced the complete blockade of Gaza and in retaliation for the surprise attack two days earlier, Hamas in Gaza was under fire, Cameron announced a position in favor of Israel, and just a few days ago in the cyberspace, by publishing the image of the Israeli flag.

Yazidi added: On the other hand, one of the changes in Rishi Sunak’s cabinet is related to James Cleverley, whose policies towards the Ukraine war and the Gaza war, which was against the establishment of a ceasefire, and the weakness of relations with the European Union, caused him to be removed from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In fact, with this action, Sunak tried to solve two problems of his government in domestic and foreign affairs at the same time. That is, he removed Bravarman and then he tried to restore his cabinet by respectfully removing Clorelli from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and replacing him in a high position in the Ministry of Interior. In fact, the conservative party led by Sunak tried to solve the management deficiencies in the government by returning Cameron to the cabinet and also to solve the lack of an influential and experienced person in the leadership of the conservative party for the near future and election campaigns with the rival party.
