PNN – 45 years after the execution of “Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto”, the founder of Pakistan’s People’s Party and Prime Minister of Pakistan during the period of military rule, the Supreme Court of this country found Bhutto’s trial to be contrary to the principles of justice and laws and declared his execution unfair.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network from Pakistan National TV, The Supreme Court of this country declared the trial of the late Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, who was executed 45 years ago during the time of General Zia-ul-Haq, the military ruler of the country, as contrary to the principles of justice and the constitution.
The Chief Justice of Pakistan said Mr. Bhutto was not given a fair chance to defend himself in court. Judge Fazeh Isa added that all the judges have announced their unanimous opinion and we must say that the judiciary must make up for its past mistakes.
Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, known as the “Leader of the Nation”, was deposed by General Zia-ul-Haq during a military coup and then sentenced to death by the court in the case of treason.
Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto is the father of Mrs. Benazir Bhutto, another Prime Minister of Pakistan, who was assassinated in the middle of 2007 in the city of Rawalpindi. He is the grandfather of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the chairman of the People’s Party, and the father-in-law of the former president of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari.
Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was the fourth president and ninth prime minister of Pakistan. He was executed on April 4, 1979 at the age of 51 in Rawalpindi, Pakistan.
The petition to reopen the case of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was submitted to the Supreme Court by Asif Ali Zardari, the then President of Pakistan, and after a 13-year gap, the Supreme Court finally issued its verdict today by re-examining the case.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of People’s Party and former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, speaking to reporters after the court session, said that today’s court verdict shows the Supreme Court’s admission of its mistakes in the trial of an innocent political leader.
According to this report, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was born on January 5, 1928 in a rich Muslim family in Larkana district of Sindh province, Pakistan. After completing preliminary studies, he graduated from California and Oxford universities in the field of law. After completing his studies, Bhutto chose the profession of lawyer in Pakistan and worked in the Supreme Court.
He married Nosrat Begum Esfahani in Karachi on September 8, 1951. The result of this marriage was four children named Benazir, Morteza, Sanam and Shahnawaz.
Benazir Bhutto’s father engaged in political activities during the following years and was responsible for eight years in different governments of Pakistan since 1957.
Among Bhutto’s political responsibilities were the representative of Pakistan at the United Nations (1957), the minister of energy in the government of Muhammad Ayub Khan (1958), and also the advisor to the president of the country during the Indus River negotiations with India (1960).
The late Prime Minister of Pakistan resigned from his position in 1966 due to his refusal to accept the agreement with India on Kashmir, and the following year he formed the opposition party of the government called People’s Party. This party won the majority of seats in the 1970 elections.
Zulfikar Ali Bhutto served as the fourth president of the Republic of Pakistan from December 20, 1971 to August 13, 1973, but this year, when the country’s constitution was changed, the main power was entrusted to the prime minister, and Bhutto also assumed this position.
The People’s Party government led by Bhutto had a bitter end. Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was overthrown as the prime minister in 1977 by the military coup of General Muhammad Ziaul Haq, and finally the founder of the People’s Party was executed on April 4, 1979 on charges of murder and treason.
