According to Axios, the Trump administration believes that a new Israeli war in the coming weeks is unlikely, and efforts are focused on economic cooperation and pressure to disarm Hezbollah in Lebanon.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, the Axios website reported new details from a meeting among representatives of Lebanon, the United States, and the Israeli occupation regime in the town of Al-Naqoura in southern Lebanon. A US official told the website that Washington hopes the Al-Naqoura meeting will help reduce tensions between Lebanon and the Israeli regime.

According to the report, a US official stated that Washington hopes the Al-Naqoura meeting will contribute to easing tensions between Lebanon and Israel. This official also emphasized that the Donald Trump administration believes the assassination of the Hezbollah military commander (Martyr Haitham Ali Tabatabai) created space for Israel’s political maneuvering.

He added that the White House believes the killing of this senior commander delayed the execution of a large-scale Israeli operation in Lebanon. He further noted that from the Trump administration’s perspective, the resumption of war by Israel in the coming weeks is unlikely.

Other informed sources also told Axios that Morgan Ortagus, along with Israeli and Lebanese diplomats, held a meeting in Al-Naqoura, with the main part devoted to introductions and establishing a communication channel between the parties.

According to the report, the most important topic in the first session was economic cooperation, particularly reconstruction programs in southern Lebanon. One US official further explained that Washington’s view is to create a “Trump Economic Zone” along the borders, a zone that must be completely free of Hezbollah presence.

The participating parties also agreed to hold another meeting before the new year and to present economic proposals to build trust between the sides.

Another US official emphasized that all parties share the assessment that the main goal is the disarmament of Hezbollah, and the three armies will continue to work jointly within the framework of the ceasefire mechanism to achieve this goal.

Holding this meeting, the first of its kind in 42 years, caused anger among many Lebanese people. In this context, last night a group of Lebanese citizens took to the streets to protest their government’s approach to compromise with the Israeli regime.
