Why doesn’t the Zionist regime adhere to its commitments and agreements?

commitments

PNN – The Israeli regime’s lack of commitments to international agreements is rooted in the history of the formation of this regime, its extensive political and military support from the United States, and its expansionist policies.

Since its establishment in 1948, the Israeli regime has consistently been at the forefront of violating international obligations and the numerous agreements it has signed. This behavior has deepened and prolonged the Palestinian crisis. Recently, the Zionist regime committed to a ceasefire and its observance in Gaza by signing the Sharm el-Sheikh agreement. But this commitment of Israel was also violated. Yesterday, the Zionist regime showed by attacking various parts of the Gaza Strip that its approach is the same as always, which is not adhering to commitments and agreements. These attacks were carried out under the pretext of Hamas’ attack on an Israeli armored vehicle, while the Qassam Brigades denied any connection to this attack. According to the latest statistics, the Israeli regime has targeted more than 100 areas in different parts of Gaza with airstrikes since the ceasefire was announced.

The Historical Roots of Israel’s Perfidy

To better understand why Israel is not living up to its commitments, we need to look at the history of the formation of the regime and the role of world powers in this process. Before the official establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, the Balfour Declaration of 1917 was issued by Britain, which declared support for the establishment of a “national home for the Jewish people” in Palestine. This declaration was issued without considering the rights of the indigenous people of Palestine and set the stage for future conflicts and crises. In 1942, the Baltimore Conference, supported by the United States and some Western powers, called for the establishment of an independent Jewish state in Palestine. This widespread support from major powers effectively allowed Israel to pursue its expansionist policies without regard for the rights of the Palestinians.

After the declaration of the existence of the Zionist regime in 1948, the United Nations passed Resolution 181 to partition Palestine, which called for the formation of two independent states, Palestinian and Israeli. However, Tel Aviv rejected this resolution and continued to occupy large parts of Palestinian lands. Resolution 194, which affirmed the right of return of Palestinian refugees, was also completely ignored by Israel. These actions clearly demonstrate that Israel has been unwilling to abide by international law and its obligations from the very beginning.

Continuous violations of ceasefires and agreements

One of the most prominent examples of Tel Aviv’s lack of commitment is its repeated violations of ceasefire agreements. In many cases, after signing ceasefire agreements or reducing tensions, the Zionist regime has continued its military attacks under various pretexts. In Lebanon, for example, reports show that Tel Aviv has violated ceasefire agreements more than 4,151 times. In the Gaza Strip, Israel has quickly resumed its air and ground attacks after each agreement to reduce violence. A prominent example is the Sharm el-Sheikh 2025 agreement, which was signed with the aim of ending the war and establishing a ceasefire. But immediately afterward, Israeli warplanes bombed areas such as Rafah, Khan Yunis, and Jabalia. These actions have killed scores of civilians and destroyed vital infrastructure, while undermining confidence in the peace process. This disregard for ceasefire agreements reflects the approach that Israel has adopted in dealing with the Palestinians, an approach based on military pressure and continued occupation rather than a political and diplomatic solution to the problem.

Expansionist policy and violation of Palestinian rights

One of the fundamental and important reasons for the Zionist regime’s reneging is its expansionist policies, which manifest themselves in the form of illegal settlement construction in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. According to international law and UN resolutions, these settlements are illegal and their construction is a serious obstacle to peace.

By building hundreds of new settlements and expanding existing ones, the Israeli regime is trying to create new geographical and political realities that deprive Palestinians of many of their territories. On the other hand, with the expansion of settlements, Palestinians have lost much of their agricultural land and natural resources, and movement restrictions and military control have become more severe. This has led to widespread humanitarian, economic, and social crises.

Widespread US support and lack of a strong international response

One of the most important factors in the continued breach of the Zionist regime is the unquestioning support of the United States. As Israel’s main ally on the global level, the United States usually refrains from exerting strong pressure on Tel Aviv in international forums.

This support includes repeated vetoes of UN resolutions against Israel, extensive military and economic aid, and unconditional political support in international negotiations and meetings. This support allows Israel to continue its aggressive policies and violations of its obligations without fear of serious international consequences.

Notable examples of breach of obligations

Refusal to implement UN resolutions: The most important examples are Resolutions 181 and 194, which, despite being binding, have not been implemented by Israel.

Ceasefire violations: After each interim agreement, Israeli military attacks on Palestinian areas have continued; these violations have not only claimed the lives of thousands of civilians but have also increased instability.

Military attacks and destruction of infrastructure: Hospitals, schools, and refugee camps have been repeatedly targeted; these actions are clear violations of human rights and international law.

Illegal Settlement Construction: The construction of settlements in the occupied territories is one of the most important obstacles to peace that Israel continues to perpetuate.

Consequences of ignoring obligations

The Zionist regime’s repeated disregard for international obligations has led to increased suffering and unrest among the Palestinian people. More than 67,000 Palestinians have been martyred in the recent war, and hundreds of thousands of people live in extremely difficult economic and humanitarian conditions. This situation has also caused the Palestinian people to lose confidence in diplomatic processes and global peace and become disappointed. On the other hand, the continuation of this regional crisis threatens the security and stability of neighboring countries and even the world, and has presented global peace processes with serious challenges.

Future vision

Given the long history of non-compliance and violation of agreements, one cannot rely solely on new agreements such as the Sharm el-Sheikh agreement. Without a fundamental change in the international community’s approach and the establishment of monitoring and accountability mechanisms, the likelihood that the Zionist regime will adhere to its commitments is very low. To achieve real peace, the international community must ensure, with full seriousness and coordination, the implementation of international law and the rights of the Palestinians. It is also necessary to exert effective political, economic and legal pressure on Israel to force the regime to respect its obligations.
