ISLAMABAD: A jailer at the Adiala prison has rebutted the reports about the change of the cell or barrack for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, The News reported.
Khan has not been shifted to a new cell or barrack, he is still staying where he has been kept, Adiala Jail Superintendent Ghafoor Anjum told the publication in an exclusive conversation.
The deposed prime minister has been incarcerated at the facility for over a year since his arrest in case related to state gifts.
The jailer said that all facilities were available to the PTI founder as before and he never complained about the comfort and convenience in the jail.
“Shaukat Khanum Hospital doctors came to the jail, examined his teeth and gave medicines which made him healthy. He did not complain of hemorrhoids or any other such ailment after coming to prison,” he added.
Khan is imprisoned under better-class (B-class) facilities with high security due to his status as a former premier. He is facing several cases, including the £190 million reference, the Toshakhana case and others.
Anjum termed the speculations about Khan’s health baseless, saying that the cricketer-turned-politician “works out for about three hours intensely without interruption”.
He said that the jail staff are urged to treat every inmate with kindness.
“Rumours about Imran Khan’s health and solitary confinement are completely false and they will also be proved to be a lie when meetings with him are allowed,” he added.
It may be noted that the Punjab government has banned all meetings inside Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail, as a measure to bolster the facility’s security in light of the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit. The event is scheduled in neighboring Islamabad from October 15 to 16, while the meetings have been restricted till October 18.
