Amna Baloch appointed foreign secretary of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – Amna Baloch, a Grade 22 officer of the Foreign Service of Pakistan, has been appointed as the new foreign secretary of Pakistan, succeeding Dr. Syrus Sajjad Qazi.

She would assume the charge on September 11 as Qazi, who has now been posted as member of the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC), is set to retire as foreign secretary on September 10.

Baloch is currently serving as Pakistan’s Ambassador to European Union in Belgium.

She joined the Foreign Service of Pakistan in 1991 and has been served as various posts.

She remained on deputation with Prime Minister’s Office (Public) as Joint Secretary from February 2018 to August 2018.

She also served as Additional Secretary in Foreign Minister’s Office from September 2018 to June 2019. Baloch assumed charge of the post of High Commissioner of Pakistan to Malaysia on 19 August 2019.
