Former Pakistani official: Trump should choose engagement with Iran instead of confrontation

PNN – The former press secretary of the Pakistani president considered any military adventure against the Islamic Republic of Iran to be detrimental to global peace and security, especially the destruction of American resources, and said: Instead of playing with fire and confrontation, US President Donald Trump should choose to engage with Tehran.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, Qamar Bashir said in an article titled “Iran, Trump and the Threat of War” published by the English-language newspaper Daily Times in Islamabad: Just weeks after declaring his desire to be remembered as a “peacemaker, not a warmonger,” the US President has issued a shocking ultimatum to Iran, demonstrating a stark contrast between his statements and his ultimate goal.

He described the tensions between Iran and the United States as a clear crisis and added: But Trump’s doctrine, along with provocative rhetoric, is creating tension through the threat of force, and unlike China and North Korea, the results of this American approach towards the Islamic Republic of Iran will be much more dangerous.

The Pakistani expert said: In Iran, the concept of jihad is not just war but a sacred duty. Fighting for justice, especially against oppression or the oppressor, is seen as a moral obligation. Therefore, the threat of bombing does not scare Iran and they strengthen their resolve.

Referring to the unprecedented tensions the United States has with its traditional partners such as Canada and the depth of its differences with the European Union, he wrote: Unlike in the past, America can no longer count on the support of its traditional partners to confront Iran, to the point where the Arab rulers of the region are also setting conditions for controversial cooperation with Trump.

Addressing the US President, Qamar Bashir added: What we urgently need now, instead of playing with fire, is a middle ground in which the US should respect Iran’s sovereignty while addressing global security concerns. This could include the following: Lifting economic sanctions to encourage goodwill, recognizing the Iranian government’s considerations and views without attempting to reshape its domestic policy, and reestablishing trade, diplomatic, and multilateral engagement with Europe.

He advised: A policy based on respect, economic engagement, and mutual benefit can work in managing tensions with Iran because when a nation is economically and diplomatically integrated into the global system, it is more likely to act in a way that preserves its own well-being rather than confrontation.

The former deputy press secretary to the Pakistani president concluded by emphasizing: A war with Iran would not be just a regional conflict, but could become a global crisis. It would strain weakened alliances, damage America’s standing, collapse economies, and create a humanitarian catastrophe.

He added: No military power can overcome the ideological conviction of a nation. Peace is not achieved through intimidation of nations, but through understanding, strategy, and respectful negotiation. Extending the hand of friendship, not the threat of bombing, is the only way forward for sustainability.
