KARACHI: In another shocking road accident, a high-speed dumper truck crashed into a bunglow near Defence Road in the port city Karachi, the police said on Thursday.
The accident caused damage to the bungalow wall after it was hit by the dumper truck dumper, according to the police.
In view of the seriousness of the accident, the dumper truck driver has been arrested and taken to the custody by the police.
The driver said that accident happened because the brakes of the dumper truck had failed, according to the traffic police.
Both the dumper truck driver and cleaner were injured in the accident, the traffic police added.
In past months, there have been many road accidents involving high speed dumper trucks causing people to lose lives as well as injuring them.
Earlier this month, in a troubling revelation, it was found that at least 110 people have lost their lives in Karachi over the past 132 days due to collisions involving heavy vehicles.
In response to the growing accident crisis, Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi recently mandated the installation of cameras and trackers on all heavy transport vehicles (HTVs), including dumpers, water tankers, and oil tankers.
Moreover, the Sindh government has restricted heavy vehicle movement during daytime hours and enforced a 30 km/h speed limit within city limits. Dumpers are now banned from roads between 10pm and 6am.
