PNN: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has described Basant as more than a seasonal event, calling it a powerful expression of shared culture and collective joy.
Talking to reporters in Lahore, she said Basant is deeply rooted in Punjab’s traditions and reflects the province’s vibrant spirit. She confirmed that a dedicated control room has been set up to oversee security arrangements, adding that comprehensive safety measures and standard operating procedures are in place to ensure the festival is celebrated peacefully.
Highlighting Punjab’s cultural richness, the chief minister said the provincial government is actively working to promote local languages, particularly Punjabi. She noted that Sikhs in Indian Punjab proudly use their mother tongue across the world and stressed that people in Pakistan should also take pride in their language and heritage.
Maryam Nawaz said Basant has evolved into a global spectacle, watched and celebrated internationally, and represents a collective emotion embraced enthusiastically by the public. She added that the festival offers an ideal platform to showcase Punjab’s culture and project a positive, progressive image of Pakistan to the world.
She further remarked that for years the country has been portrayed as being in constant crisis, but the situation is improving. According to her, Punjab is witnessing development, people are moving ahead, and there is a growing desire to celebrate happiness in a safe and positive environment.
