Maryam Nawaz woos Murree voters with development vows

Maryam urges people to choose “lion” to get their issues resolved.
Calls for timber, possession mafias to be chased away from Murree.
Says her party decided to ease issues of people by serving them.

With only two days left before the upcoming elections and political parties trying their best to woo the masses, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior vice-president Maryam Nawaz has promised the “highest development” if the party is voted into power.

“[We] promise the highest development in Murree if the city chooses lion,” Maryam said while addressing a political gathering in Murree on Monday.

Her remarks come as most of the major political parties, including the PML-N, have premised their election campaigns on socio-economic uplift amid the prevailing dire economic indicators driven by a weakening local currency, depleting foreign exchange reserves and other factors.

Both the PML-N and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), which have emerged as key competitors to the former in the country’s largest province Punjab, have been actively propagating their “economic agenda” to woo the masses who have been facing the brunt of sky-high inflation and increasing inflation.

Reiterating the provisions of the party’s election manifesto titled “Pakistan ko Nawaz do”, Maryam, who has been leading the party’s election campaign and is contesting in her first-ever general election from NA-119 and PP-159 constituencies, stressed that decide the future of next generations.

The PML-N stalwart’s remarks come as the party’s manifesto aims to slash electricity bills by 20-30% along with a 6% GDP growth target coupled with $60 billion worth of exports, $40 billion remittances and a reduced poverty level to 25% from 38% if five years.

Urging the crowd to stamp on the lion — PML-N’s iconic electoral symbol — to get their problems solved, the scion of the Sharif family, who expressed her surprise over the large gathering at the hill station despite harsh weather, vowed the people of Murree to end their woes.

She further said that the timber and possession mafias have to be chased away from the city, adding: “We had decided to ease the difficulties of Murree’s people by serving them day and night.”
