PNN: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Thursday visited the under-construction Islamabad Model Jail and a hostel project at the National Police Academy to review development progress.
Officials briefed the minister that the Islamabad jail project, which had remained pending for nearly 15 years, is now nearing completion within one year of renewed efforts. More than 85 percent of Phase One has been completed, and the facility is expected to become operational within the next two months.
During the visit, Naqvi inspected the barracks and expressed satisfaction over the pace and quality of construction work. He stressed that establishing a modern model jail in the federal capital is essential from a security perspective.
According to the briefing, the project was originally initiated in 2011 but faced prolonged delays. The updated plan includes digital monitoring systems and the establishment of a central control room to ensure modern security management.
The interior minister also reviewed progress on the new hostel facility at the National Police Academy, saying that improved infrastructure would enhance the standard of police training. Once completed, the hostel will provide better residential facilities for police officers.
Senior officials present on the occasion included Inspector General Islamabad Police Ali Nasir Rizvi, Chief Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa, and Director General Federal Investigation Agency Dr Usman Anwar.
