MQM-P welcomes SC verdict on disqualification.
PML-N’s Mashhood says parties to make final decision in few days.
MQM-P seeks electoral alliance to rid Sindh of “corrupt regime”.
Following the Supreme Court verdict and with less than a month to elections, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has assured the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) that the party’s candidates that make it to the National Assembly will vote for Nawaz Sharif if he throws his hat in the ring to become the prime minister for a fourth time, reported The News on Tuesday.
The decision was announced by MQM-P leader Syed Amin Ul Haque during a media talk after he led a delegation of his party to hold talks with the PML-N for a possible seat adjustment between the two parties in Sindh. Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan led the PML-N delegation in the talks.
The senior MQM-P leader greeted the PML-N leaders on the Supreme Court decision that had ended the lifetime disqualification of its leader Nawaz Sharif.
The former federal minister said that the Supreme Court decision was praiseworthy. He hoped that Nawaz would become the next prime minister when a new house of the National Assembly was formed.
Haque said that MQM-P hopes to form an electoral alliance with like-minded political parties to rid Sindh of the “corrupt regime” that has ruled the province for the past several years. He said the previous governments of the Pakistan Peoples Party in Sindh had completely failed to deliver.
He informed media persons that the MQM-P had been holding talks with the Grand Democratic Alliance and the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl to form an electoral alliance in Sindh for the upcoming polls. He predicted that MQM-P would be part of a coalition government in Sindh after the February 8 polls.
He said that former prime minister Shehbaz Sharif and MQM-Pakistan Convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui would take a final decision on seat adjustment between the two parties in the NA-242 constituency. Both Shehbaz Sharif and MQM leader Syed Mustafa Kamal are the candidates from this constituency.
Meanwhile, PML-N leader Rana Mashhood also confirmed that the top leadership of the two political parties would make a final announcement on seat adjustments in Sindh in a few days. He said the delegations of the two parties had finalised their recommendations in this regard.
In November of last year, PML-N and MQM-P announced that they would be jointly contesting the February 8 general elections.
The development came following a meeting of an MQM-P delegation led by Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Farooq Sattar and Syed Mustafa Kamal with PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif in Lahore at the party’s Model Town secretariat.
