Muharram in Pakistan; Manifestation of Islamic unity and vigilance against division

PNN – Muharram enjoys high respect among the Islamic community and followers of other religions in this neighboring country. This month, religious leaders emphasize the need to use the philosophy of the Hosseini uprising for unity and vigilance against division and extremism.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, the crescent of the month of Muharram was seen in Pakistan, the month of sadness and grief of millions of followers of Ahl al-Bayt (AS) in mourning the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) who is a message of unity, peace and promotion of anti-oppression culture for all Muslims including Pakistanis.

At the same time as the beginning of the month of Muharram, the political and religious leaders of Pakistan emphasized on promoting the spirit of self-sacrifice, selflessness, courage, martyrdom in the way of God and most importantly, anti-tyranny, and emphasized that this opportunity should be used to strengthen peace in the society, Islamic unity and freedom from extremism.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan, during their messages on the occasion of the beginning of the new lunar year and the month of Muharram, paid tribute to Imam Hussain (AS) and the martyrdom of his faithful companions in Karbala, describing the Ashura incident as a manifestation of the battle between right and wrong.

They emphasized: Imam Hussain (as) and his holy family sacrificed their precious lives to defend the values ​​of Islam, and this sacrifice should be at the top of all Muslims’ work for unity, justice and fighting oppression.

In recent days, various conferences and meetings were held in Pakistan under the title of honoring the month of Muharram, explaining the uprising of Imam Hussain (AS) and the need for community unity to counter the conspiracy of common enemies, especially vigilance against division and extremism.

Party leaders, religious figures and Pakistani thinkers by reminding the importance of the uprising of Imam Hussain (AS) and the need to be inspired by the sacrifices of the family of the Prophet (PBUH) to confront oppression, tyranny and coercion, to strengthen Islamic tolerance, the spirit of brotherhood among the followers of Islamic religions and encourage them to learn from the Hosseini school.

The mourning and mourning rituals of Pakistani Shiites started from the northernmost point of the country to its south on the occasion of Muharram. The widespread mourning of Hosseini’s followers in Pakistan will continue until the first week of the month of Rabi al-Awwal, and during this period, government agencies in different regions of the country will pay special attention to ensure the security of the Shia community, centers for holding mourning and public gatherings.

Beyond the Shia community, followers of other religions, especially the Christian and Hindu minorities of Pakistan, also participate in the preparation and distribution of offerings for the religious rituals of this month by expressing their devotion to Imam Hussain (as) and respecting the month of Muharram.

Starting these days, Pakistani television channels broadcast religious ceremonies and mourning, and in respect of the month of Muharram, they refrain from broadcasting music programs and other happy programs.

In Pakistan, the 9th and 10th days of Muharram are official holidays, and people distribute their offerings to religious groups and the poor on this day.

State governments in Pakistan these days are considering special preparations for the peaceful observance of Muharram mourning rituals due to the increase in air temperature, especially in the cities of Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi and Quetta. Security measures are being intensified to protect Hussaini mourners and Shia religious places in different areas of Pakistan.

At the same time, the officials of Majlis Wahdat Muslim, one of the progressive Shia parties of Pakistan, emphasized on the effective actions of the government and the security agencies to pay attention to the expectations of the people during the days of Muharram and Safar, and condemned any expansion of the takfiri forces and opponents of religious tolerance during these days.

Opposing any disruption in the matter of restricting mourning rituals under the pretext of security concerns or intensifying the challenge of sectarianism, they demanded the government of Pakistan to deal seriously with the factors of division and hatred in the society.
