DALLAS: The government’s decision to revoke the notification designating Tahir Javaid, a Pakistani-American businessman based in US state of Texas, as the state minister for investment has caused alarms in the Pakistani-American business community.
Representatives of the Pakistan Society of North Texas, as well as local Pakistani-American industrialists and business community members, were alarmed at the decision and believe that Pakistan would suffer a great loss as a result of the decision.
Hafeez Khan, a well-known figure in Pakistani American industry and a former chairman of the Pak American Industry Forum, expressed vehement opposition to Javaid’s dismissal at a news conference.
Abid Malik from the Board of Trustees of PSNT of North Texas mentioned that what happened with Javaid in the presence of overseas Pakistanis is not a noble act. They expressed not only disapproval of the decision but also solidarity with Javaid.
Additionally, another business leader Barkat Basria asserted that Javaid is not only an extremely hardworking individual but has always supported various events and his treatment was not a proper way to respond to his contributions.
The secretary-general of the Pakistan Society of North Texas, Abid Baig, stated that, before the implementation of the notification, investigations should have been carried out regarding Javaid’s contributions to the national security of Pakistan.
At present, Javaid holds a crucial position in the US Democratic Party, and he could have played a vital role in serving Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Waqar Khan, chairman of the Pak American Business Forum, mentioned that Javaid’s services to Pakistan have been invaluable. He asserted that what happened with Javaid was based on personal animosities and was inappropriate. He also called for the accountability of those involved in such actions.
Leaders at the press conference emphasised that Javaid has always worked for the betterment of Pakistan and has not been associated with any Pakistani political party nor has he ever been part of one.
The reason for this is his unwavering commitment to assisting Pakistan.
Moreover, similar actions were taken against Javaid by envious individuals and those with ulterior motives, and a coordinated campaign through social media was followed.
In this context, current US officials also offered explanations, stating that there is no truth in what is being spread on social media.
They emphasised that only a jealous person benefits from this situation, while Pakistan and the Pakistani community will suffer a significant loss. Pakistanis living throughout the US do not consider the government’s action as correct.
They called on the caretaker prime minister and army chief to reconsider the decision in the best interests of Pakistan, immediately retract the unjust decision.
