Pakistan, China to boost liaison in intelligence sharing, cybercrime prevention

PNN: Pakistan and China on Thursday agreed to enhance cooperation in intelligence sharing and cybercrime prevention.

The understanding was reached during a meeting between Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Chinese Ambassador in Pakistan Jiang Zaidong.

Upon his arrival at the Ministry of Interior, the Federal Interior Minister welcomed the Chinese Ambassador. During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on counter-terrorism, internal security, and security cooperation. The interior minister and the Chinese Ambassador reaffirmed their resolve to further strengthen the Pakistan–China strategic partnership.

The Chinese Ambassador condemned the terrorist attacks on civilians and security forces in Balochistan and expressed heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the affected families.

He said that China stands in complete solidarity with the victims in this hour of grief. China condemns terrorism in all its forms and stands firmly with Pakistan in the fight against terrorism.

Mr Naqvi stated that terrorism in Balochistan was carried out under an organised and premeditated plan, and that the security forces responded in a timely and effective manner. He briefed the Chinese Ambassador on the prompt and effective operations conducted by security forces in Balochistan.

The interior minister also briefed him on the measures taken for the protection of Chinese citizens and Chinese projects, stating that the safety of Chinese citizens and projects was of paramount importance. He emphasised that no enemy can undermine Pakistan–China friendship.

“Providing maximum security to Chinese nationals is our top priority”, he said, adding that a Special Protection Unit was being established for the security of Chinese nationals.

He said modern Chinese technology and equipment will prove supportive for coordinated counter-terrorism operations. Mr Naqvi also briefed the Chinese ambassador on his recent visit to China.

The Chinese Ambassador thanked Pakistan for the security measures taken for Chinese nationals. The interior minister expressed his gratitude to the Chinese Ambassador for China’s unwavering support for Pakistan on every occasion. Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, Secretary Interior, Special Secretary of Interior, and senior officials of the Chinese embassy were also present on the occasion.
