Pakistan repatriates more than 682,000 Afghan nationals

PNN: The repatriation of illegally residing Afghan nationals from Pakistan is continuing, with the Ministry of Interior stating that a total of 682,141 Afghan citizens have so far returned to Afghanistan.

According to official figures, 69,431 Afghan Citizen Card (ACC) holders have been repatriated, while 216,634 individuals holding Proof of Registration (PoR) cards have also returned from various parts of the country. The ministry said that on the previous day alone, 375 Afghan nationals were sent back via the Torkham border.

During the same period, the ministry added, 139 ACC holders and 1,224 PoR card holders were repatriated to Afghanistan as part of the ongoing process.

The interior ministry noted that similar deportation drives against undocumented Afghan nationals are also underway in other countries.

In Turkey, authorities have reported a sharp increase in action against illegal migrants over the past year. According to data released by the Turkish Migration Authority, more than 152,000 Afghan nationals were arrested during this period.

The figures show that Afghan migrants accounted for the highest number of arrests, with over 42,000 individuals detained. Syrian nationals ranked second, while a substantial number of migrants from Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Iran were also taken into custody.

Official data further indicates that overall arrests of illegal migrants in Turkey declined in 2025 compared to the previous year. Reports show that more than 225,000 migrants were arrested across Turkey in 2024.
