PNN – Today, December 16, coincides with the 10th anniversary of the horrific crime that took place in a school in Peshawar, Pakistan, and at least 140 students and teachers lost their lives in this terrorist attack. The consequences of this incident caused by the old wound of terrorism continue to affect the Pakistani society.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network, 10 years ago on this day, a group of terrorists attacked a school belonging to the children of Pakistani army personnel in the city of Peshawar, killing 144 students, teachers and staff of this educational center. More than 130 of these victims were students of this school.
All schools and universities across Pakistan have been closed today on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attack on the Peshawar school and to pay tribute to its victims.
After this horrible crime, the then prime minister of Pakistan ordered to change the name of each of the schools in the country’s capital after one of the victims of the Peshawar school.
The terrorist attack, which the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for, shocked not only Pakistan but the entire world.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said today in a message on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attack on the Peshawar school: The people of Pakistan neither forget this crime nor forgive its perpetrators. Pakistan’s war on terrorism will continue until its last element is destroyed.
He added: The perpetrators of this crime have nothing to do with religion, and with foreign support, they imposed such a cowardly incident on the people and the educational community of Pakistan.
President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari also said in his message on the occasion of this day: Today is a reminder of the unity of the nation against terrorism and Pakistan will not allow the blood of its armed forces, students, dedicated teachers and political leaders to be wasted.
Four of the perpetrators of the attack on the Peshawar school were executed on the first anniversary of this incident, and the sentence of retribution for its main designer was also executed. Today, after 10 years of that heartbreaking incident, its victims are still fresh in the hearts of the survivors, especially the parents of the missing students.
A few days after the killing of Peshawar school students, the Pakistani army announced that the attack was planned from Afghanistan, and with this argument, intensified military operations against elements of the Pakistani Taliban.
However, the growth of terrorism and its consequences have become a major challenge for Pakistani statesmen, and today the country’s war with various groups, especially Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and Baloch separatists, continues.
