Pakistani Iranologist: Nowruz is a message of unity and cultural stability

PNN – Professor of Iranology and Head of the Department of Persian Language and Literature at the National University of Pakistan, considered the importance of the ancient celebration of Nowruz to go beyond political and religious tastes and as a reminder of common heritage and human values, and added: Nowruz is a message of celebration, unity, and cultural sustainability.

During an exclusive interview in Islamabad, Dr. Amber Yasmin congratulated the nation and government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as the nations of the Islamic civilization, on the arrival of Nowruz and the Iranian New Year, and said: Nowruz, the ancient celebration and Iranian New Year, carries an eternal message of renewal, unity, and cultural sustainability.

He added: This event, celebrated by millions of people in different countries of the region, transcends political and religious differences and is a powerful reminder of shared heritage, mutual respect, and shared human values.

The head of the Persian Language and Literature Department at the National University of Modern Languages ​​(NUML) in Islamabad stated: It can be said that despite the political borders that separate many nations, Nowruz is a link that connects people in countries such as Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, the Republic of Azerbaijan, and other parts of Central Asia and the Middle East.

He emphasized: Nowruz is a reminder of the deep cultural ties and shared history that unite these nations and strengthen the sense of belonging to a broader cultural family.

Yasmin said: Nowruz carries a message of freshness and newness, hope and a new beginning, and celebrates the arrival of spring and renewal, promotes unity, peace and harmony between nations regardless of their differences and tastes, while at the same time respecting cultural heritage and nature.

The professor of Persian language at Nomal University added: The Islamic Republic of Iran and Pakistan are the only countries that, in addition to being neighbors, have common people, religion, science, and culture. We have many similarities in the fields of science, local customs and traditions, literature, and celebrations, one of which is the Nowruz celebration.

He continued: Nowruz is celebrated under the title “Nowruz Alam Afroz” in the Gilgit and Baltistan provinces in northern Pakistan and as “Jashn Baharan” in the Punjab province.

These celebrations are a little different in Pakistan and are celebrated with events such as fireworks, shooting, and polo.

He concluded by saying: Holding these types of celebrations is a symbol of cultural commonalities between Iran and Pakistan; in addition, at the beginning of spring, the people of Punjab celebrate Baharan and Basant; they wear colorful clothes and perform traditional rituals.
