PNN: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz formally inaugurated the Punjab Agriculture Food and Drug Authority (PAFDA), where both leaders toured different departments and reviewed the authority’s operations.
During the visit, they received a comprehensive briefing on the laboratory facilities, while a documentary showcased the reform initiatives introduced under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that a transparent monitoring system for agricultural products and medicines is essential in today’s environment. He said PAFDA is expected to emerge as a regional center of excellence. The prime minister praised the Punjab government for leveraging modern technology to ensure transparency and acknowledged the dedication of scientists and technical experts involved in the project.
He lauded Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for these initiatives, noting that PAFDA has been established to benefit not only Punjab but the entire country. He also highlighted the creation of a network of forensic laboratories aimed at producing conclusive evidence in criminal cases.
In her address, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz described the establishment of PAFDA as a strong example of public-focused governance. She said Punjab is moving steadily toward development and prosperity, supported by a growing digital transformation with strict adherence to merit.
Maryam Nawaz added that inadequate laboratory facilities had previously caused difficulties for exporters and consumers. She further stated that satellite crime scene units are being expanded to 38 districts and noted that PAFDA represents a decade-long effort to address long-standing gaps in testing infrastructure, which was especially concerning for an agriculture-based country.
