Punjab CM: Empowered women key to province’s future

PNN: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that if the daughters of Punjab stand firm, they can change the destiny of the province, adding that women of the province are second to none and capable of achieving anything through hard work and determination.

Addressing a passing-out ceremony of community health workers in Lahore, the chief minister said Punjab’s women are courageous and have the potential to shape the province’s future through their abilities. She stressed that determination and dedication can help them achieve whatever goals they set.

Maryam Nawaz said the government is shifting its healthcare approach, stating that instead of waiting for patients to come to hospitals, health services will be delivered directly to people’s homes. She said there would be no city, street or neighbourhood left where government teams would not reach. With the deployment of 25,000 community health inspectors, she added, diseases would gradually disappear from Punjab.

The chief minister informed the community health workers that their current salary is Rs50,000, assuring them that salaries would be increased based on performance. “When you perform well, I will personally increase your salaries,” she said.

Maryam Nawaz said the government aims to ensure people no longer have to walk long distances to hospitals, but that hospitals reach the people instead. With the help of community health workers, she added, authorities will be able to identify emerging diseases across the province.

She further said cardiology hospitals are being established throughout Punjab, noting that few could have imagined a cardiology hospital in Jhang. Concluding her address, she said, “One Maryam is standing before you today, and before me stand many Maryams.”
