PNN: Punjab’s first-ever Sahulat on the Go bazaars have emerged as a major public attraction, offering affordable, quality essentials to citizens while providing street vendors with organized and dignified livelihoods.
Launched under the direction of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, more than 400 stalls have been allotted to vendors through a transparent open lottery system.
In the first phase, bazaars have been set up at ten locations in Lahore, including Gulshan Ravi, Shadman, Motherland Market, Madina Market, Township, Sunder Road and Kotah Pind in Faisal Town. Additional markets are now operational in Khadak Nala, Awan Town, Valencia and Shahdara.
The bazaars offer fruits, vegetables, poultry and grocery items at government-regulated prices. Facilities include proper security arrangements, sanitation services, restroom facilities and drive-through shopping options to ensure public convenience.
According to officials, five more bazaars will be made operational by February at Barkhi, Saddar, Nashtar Town, Raiwind Phase II, Faisal Town, Moon Market and Ferozwala.
Vendors have welcomed the initiative, expressing gratitude to the chief minister and stating that the organized system has given them the confidence and dignity of being recognized as shop owners rather than street peddlers.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said the project reflects her vision of a clean and beautiful Lahore, where development directly benefits the working poor. She also praised the Punjab Sahulat Bazaar Authority for effective implementation, noting that the initiative would reduce reliance on subsidies traditionally provided during Ramadan markets.
