Any law that is passed in the House of Representatives of this country must be approved by the Senate in order to become official.
Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, the candidate of the Pakistan People’s Party, was elected as the new Speaker of the Senate without any opponent, and Syedal Nasir Khan, the candidate of the Muslim League-Nawaz Party, was also elected as the Vice Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan without any opponent.

71-year-old Yusuf Raza Gilani was in power between 2008 and 2021 as the 16th Prime Minister of Pakistan. He, who was able to enter the National Assembly in the recent elections of Pakistan, resigned from his representation a few days after the National Assembly began and then was elected as a new representative in the Senate as a candidate of the People’s Party.
In a message, the Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif congratulated the election of the new chairman and vice chairman of the Senate and described it as the continuation of the democratic system (republic) in this country.
The election of the new chairman of the Senate of Pakistan is part of the agreement between the two main parties of the coalition government of this country, Muslim League Nawaz and People’s Party. According to this agreement, the chairmanship of the National Assembly went to the Muslim League Nawaz party and the representative of the People’s Party is now the vice-chairman of the National Assembly of this country.
