Trilateral commitment of China, Pakistan and Afghanistan to counter terrorism and strengthen cooperation

PNN – The foreign ministers of China, Pakistan and Afghanistan pledged to joint efforts against terrorism and expand economic, political and security cooperation to ensure mutual interests during the sixth round of trilateral meetings in Kabul.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, Afghan Taliban foreign minister Amir Khan Mottaki hosted his Pakistani and Chinese counterparts in Kabul today.

The sixth round of the trilateral foreign ministers’ meeting was attended by Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Mottaki.

The Pakistani Foreign Ministry Spokesperson’s Office issued a statement announcing that the trilateral meeting in Kabul focused on political, economic, and security cooperation.

The three sides pledged to strengthen joint efforts against terrorism. They also expressed their commitment to deepen cooperation in the areas of trade, transit, regional development, health, education, culture and counter-narcotics, as well as to extend the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to Afghanistan.

On the sidelines of the event, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Deputy Prime Minister of Pakistan, met with Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Mottaki.

They expressed satisfaction with the positive trend in bilateral relations. They welcomed the recent elevation of the diplomatic representation level between the two countries from ChargĂ© d’Affaires to Ambassador, as agreed at the trilateral meeting in Beijing on May 21, 2025.

A trilateral mechanism between Afghanistan and Pakistan was formed in recent years, with China playing a role and helping to de-escalate tensions between these two neighboring countries.

The Pakistani Foreign Minister called on the Afghan authorities to take concrete and demonstrable action against terrorist groups such as the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA)/Majid Brigade.

Mottaki also stressed Afghanistan’s commitment to ensure that no terrorist group uses its territory against Pakistan or other countries.
