LONDON: Members of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s family in London have been warned by the local police that they face a serious threat of a violent attack from unidentified individuals, according to trusted sources who shared the alert based on local intelligence reports.
Trusted security sources shared with Geo News that the West Midlands Police informed the London Metropolitan Police that there is a serious threat against Nawaz’s family members. The sources added that the threat alert was generated by the West Midlands Police through its intelligence monitoring system.
Detectives from Scotland Yard visited Avenfield apartments and informed the family about the threat level and issued safety guidelines, said sources.
The police asked the Sharif family members to stay vigilant and exercise caution in their movements, according to information. The police did not reveal where the threat originates from and who could be involved. “It cited the West Midlands police as the source of intelligence,” said the sources.
The police, its understood, informed the family that it has done the needful to counter the threat.
Two weeks ago, activist Gulfam Hussain was arrested by the Scotland Yard from outside Avenfield flats. He is now on bail but barred from going near the Avenfield property. Gulfam was arrested by the police on a compliant made by Khurram Butt, PML-N Youth Wing leader in the UK. The sources shared that the West Midlands Police acted after a Birmingham-based group of TikTokers issued threats of violent attacks during live broadcasts. The sources added that Hussain’s arrest is linked to the same threat alert as he visited the apartments in person, however, others threatened only on TikTok. The sources further said that the police is investigating the matter in light of the videos it has. Hussain has denied issuing threats.
Most of the Sharif family members no longer live in London and have already relocated to Pakistan. After spending nearly three years in exile, Nawaz returned to Pakistan in November 2023. Hussain Nawaz lives mostly in Saudi Arabia but his wife and children reside in London. Hasan Nawaz Sharif lives in Lahore where he is assisting his father.
Nawaz Sharif’s youngest daughter and Ali Dar’s wife lives in Lahore. Ali Dar, who lived in London throughout the time Nawaz was in exile, packed up around eight months ago and now lives in Lahore. Nawaz Sharif’s grandson and Hussain Nawaz’s son, Zayd Hussain, got married in Lahore last month.
