A new humanoid robot has been demonstrated by scientists that can run up to a speed of over 8mph or 3.6m/s, making it the speediest machine ever built.
However, the speeds were observed only after the humanoid ran with added footwear, Live Science reported.
Two of the STAR1 robots were put against each other in a promotional video in the Gobi Desert in northwestern China.
The robots created by the Robot Era Chinese company, ran in the desert. One of them, however, was given a pair of sneakers to check if the footwear would make the humanoid run quicker than its opponent.
The STAR1 robot donning the footwear, aided by high-torque motors and artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms, ran through grasslands and gravel. It jogged on paved roads and kept up its top pace for 34 straight minutes.
Not only this, the STAR1 broke the top speed record of Unitree’s H1 robot which became the speediest robot in March as it maintained a speed of 7.4mph or 3.3m/s.
Furthermore, the STAR1 is one of many robots that has been displayed by makers recently including Tesla’s Optimus Gen-2 and Boston Dynamics’ new Atlas, an AI-powered Figure 01 robot.
